No ultrawide support for no "competitive advantage"
I'd like to take a minute to talk about this previously common (but now dated) response to ultrawide requests. Blizzard argued the same thing, and they eventually implemented a stretched screen option to compromise. I might disagree, but this was at the very least a fair compromise, and far better than having black bars. Not to mention that if we're being honest, this game essentially mimics CS, and CS has ultrawide support. More and more people are getting wider monitors, and not supporting them is rather hurtful for the game. At least allowing stretching makes sense, no? I'd rather not risk some sort of ban for using alternative programs, and we ALL know that people WILL do so. Not to mention it sucks paying $800 for a monitor to have a big game rarely go "haha no here are some black bars instead." This is less common now though, as more and more games have had ultrawide support now, as it becomes more popular. I understand the logic, I really do, but I firmly believe that if we're going to apply such logic, it must be equally distributed among areas that will provide a (noticeable) advantage to players. I should also remind everyone again, that you could still stretch the screen and remove the bars with no advantage, as has been done in Overwatch. But regardless, with their argument at hand of competitive advantage, let's look at areas where one could have a marginal advantage.
Higher refresh rate- As many of us know, a higher refresh rate is incredibly useful for flick shooters of this genre, being able to have that higher hz can make a night and day difference. You'll see many who go from 60hz to 144hz that say they can't go back to 60hz, understandably so, as it makes things much smoother, and in a game where you have to react to the slightest movements, seems rather useful to have, no? By this logic, we must cap the framerate maximum, as to not provide a noticeable advantage to users. This would be unfortunate for those with higher framerates, and impact them negatively, but we cannot have players with lower framerates at a disadvantage, can we?
Screen brightness- Sometimes it's hard to find targets, especially in dark areas or cramped locations. Changing your brightness can really help with that! I know some people who raised their brightness settings in games specifically so they can better find targets in the dark! So we must restrict the brightness settings. This may hurt users who have differing brightness settings, but we cannot have players gaining a competitive advantage by changing their brightness to see things easier.
LOWER resolutions- I remember back when I played CSS people would debate about lowering their resolution to make targets easier to hit. I remember it being a popular topic to argue, but considering there are those who are trying to lower their resolutions to make targets easier to hit, would that not be a competitive advantage? Seems like one to me. With that in mind, I guess we will need to restrict the resolutions to be whatever the monitor is set to, so that we don't have anyone getting that "competitive advantage."
Color settings built in for monitors- Some of you may know this, some of you may not, but many monitors allow you to change the color settings to make the colors stand out more (or less). So with that in mind, we must also ensure that players cannot utilize their monitor settings to change colors and provide a visual advantage via making characters or abilities stand out more.
HDR displays- We also will need to put a limit on HDR displays, as they create deeper levels of black and white contrast. As explained in my other examples, these visual cues are vital for competitive FPS games! We can't have anyone holding an advantage over others, so this must be stopped.
I could go on, genuinely, but I hope that my point has been made. For any game, there will be those that go out of their way to get every inch of an advantage over others. If you google "competitive advantage CSGO" for example, there are numerous videos on every nook and cranny towards their advantages. And you know what? I bet a large majority of those players still didn't get enough of an advantage for even a single higher rank. Because what really matters in these games is reaction time, muscle memory, map knowledge, gun knowledge, econ knowledge, ability to be calm under pressure, teamwork, item strategy, etc. Changing your monitor, your resolution, your colors, your mouse, your keyboard, etc, they aren't going to truly impact on a level compared to the player themselves. And for those that do get that percentile change to their "advantage," is it truly worth hindering all the other players? Let's just presume you'll say "yes" for some reason, then why not stretch the screen so I can at least fully utilize the monitor I paid for. And if you say yes, can you explain why the other areas I listed are not addressed? And as a (rather huge) side note: 21:9 is supported in League of Legends. And let's be real here, that's a pretty huge deal. The game is literally a top down game with the camera being INCREDIBLY integral for vision and what you see on your screen being (in my opinion) VASTLY more important. The game is pretty neat btw. Though I'll admit I can't enjoy the game using the black bars, and wont play it unless it gets some sort of UW support. I know I'm not the only one either. EDIT: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-gives-you-the-edge-in-battle-royale/?cjevent=c76b3cef7dbd11ea817900580a24060c Here is a link to statistics done by Nvidia based on GPU, Refresh rate and more, and their impact on K/D ratio. Note that they use BR games such as Pubg and Fortnite as reference here though. Regardless, as seen in the charts provided:
As your graphics card increased, as did your K/D ratio. To a rather large margin. You may note that those with an RTX 20xx series saw a +53% over it's 63x counterpart. We should note the game pubg isn't very optimized though, perhaps that's to play a part? So let's compare it with the 10xx series which can definitely run both games well enough. Notice there's still a 16% increase between the 10xx series and 20xx series. This means that, from the limited statistics we do have, changing your GPU can *potentially* increase your K/D.
A counter argument would be "well they could play more" or "yeah but those with better GPU's would definitely be likely bigger "gamers" than the lower GPU users. Well, Nvidia also tracked the GPU stats along with game time. The graph below the ratio and GPU tracker notes that "What’s interesting here is that having a better graphics card helped at all levels of play time, whether you only play a few hours a week, or are a Battle Royale veteran. In fact, in the chart we see that the gap between GeForce GTX 1050/Ti users and GeForce GTX 1080/Ti users expands as hours played per week increase, which means that players with more hours played appear to benefit even more from having a better GPU. This data aligned with what we observed in our lab research -- the higher the skill level, the more that players are attuned to the game and can benefit from differences in hardware. "
Now we go to the refresh rate. The next graph analyzed the different in K/D compared to refresh rates, being 60hz, 144hz and 240hz respectively. They compared them to a median player with the 10 and 20 series of GPU's. They also limited it to 1080p, since "higher resolutions can impact FPS"
The results from the above graph summarized by nvidia "The data showed that gamers that take full advantage of their graphics card by using a high refresh monitor (144 Hz or above) have significantly higher K/D ratios. And as we’ve seen before, that performance increases significantly as you work your way up to the GeForce RTX-20 Series GPUs.
One might think that this counters my point before, as it proves that these things do have a percentage based impact. I would argue that with this in mind, the idea of limiting our monitor is absolutely asinine. We allow better GPUs, We allow better refresh rates, and this data SHOWS that they can have a clear impact. But they get no change, no restriction, nothing. Instead, we get a restriction for ultrawide. Now let's look deeper into that as a whole. Ultrawide monitors are harder to run, this is a fact. The nvidia study even clarified they were only using the average 1080p monitor as larger resolutions or wide screens would impact FPS. With that in mind, consider that those with an ultrawide monitor would need to compensate for their new monitor with a good GPU to run it well, and the average refresh rate for an ultrawide user is 60hz, as the price skyrockets even further for ultrawide monitors with higher refresh rates. What I'm getting at, is that the average ultrawide user will have that beefy graphics card, but not be capable of utilizing it as much as the 1080p equivalent due to more power being required for the resolution provided, so our frames will be lower. With that in mind, our refresh rate will be lower typically. That means we are at two DISADVANTAGES by using ultrawide. If we are at two disadvantages, the only thing that would make an ultrawide screen better is if our "better vision" outweighed the average user on 1080p with 144hz refresh rate and better FPS. We don't have that data, but I doubt that's the case. So tell me why this is a competitive advantage again?
An actual guide to Apex legends positioning and Game optimization (In depth PC guide part II)
The complete guide on maximising your Apex legends experience.
Welcome (again) to another apex legends guide, due to the success of my first post "How to actually get better at aiming" I decided to create a follow-up guide for all of you out there looking to get better at the game, and willing to take the necessary steps to actually improve. I'm sure you're wondering why I made a second guide since the first one seemed to cover every aspect necessary to excel at the game, and I'm also sure a lot of you are thinking about skipping this guide as it may be unnecessary, well, that's not the case. My first guide did indeed cover multiple aspects which are crucial to comprehend in order to improve, but it wasn't as analytical as it could've been, it was aimed mainly towards beginners and I wasn't sure if it would get positive feedback to begin with, so I kept it simple. This guide is for those of you wanting to take that extra step in order to differentiate yourselves from your opponents and finally climb up in the ranked ladder. In this guide I will be covering in detail: 1) finding the right mouse 2) optimal program settings for increased visibility + fps 3) Advanced aim training 4) In-depth positioning explanation + guide. As you probably already noticed, certain topics of discussion overlap those of my initial guide, but in this guide each of the topics will be analysed to their cores so that you can follow the steps which will be provided and see guaranteed improvement within two weeks of consistent gameplay. I am 100% certain that your in-game performance and Kovaak's scores will increase significantly if you follow my guide, with visible combat performance in Apex legends and a minimum of 5-10% increase for Kovaak's scores if you are closer to beginner level. For those of you questioning what qualifies me to be putting out information in the context about skill-improvement, I have played CSGO competitively with approximately 7k hours in the game, I was ranked in the top 30 McCree players in S6 of overwatch, I am predator in Apex, and I have top 100 scores in multiple 'Kovaak's FPS aim trainer' scenarios and general top 5% scores. If you haven't read through my first guide, you can do that here. Having said all that, let's get started.
Section 1) Finding the right mouse.
When it comes to FPS games, having a mouse which can accurately translate your arm movements into mouse movements in your game is of extreme importance, and as I mentioned in my previous guide, is constantly undervalued by the casual gaming community. There is a common gaming myth that I am certain everyone regardless of the genre of games they play has heard which is that if your mouse works without blatant issues then it does it's job. Such misconceptions are usually passed on by casual gamers that don't support spending $60+ for a quality gaming mouse, but unfortunately such statements are false, which is why you will never see any streamer or competitive player using a 10$ laptop mouse. It would be pretty useless and unfair for me to tell you to go out and spend $60+ on a mouse without providing a logical explanation as to why you should, so let's go over the reasons you need a quality mouse, as well as what makes a good gaming mouse good, and how to find the mouse that suits you best. First things first, why do you need a good gaming mouse? It's pretty simple, when playing PC games, but FPS games in particular, you want your mouse movements to be fast and accurate, and in order to achieve that you need to have a quality mouse, if you try a 180 degree flick on an outdated laptop mouse you will quickly realise the mouse loses track through the movement and is therefore inaccurate and even if it didn't lose track, the built in acceleration would make the movement of the mouse inaccurate relative to the movement of your arm. If you tried something similar as the previous example with tracking a target you will quickly realise the movement isn't perfectly smooth, along with the fact that such mice have delay, which means your reaction time will be slower as a result. Gaming mice offer precision sensors which will track your movement accurately with no delay or acceleration, this is very important as it will maximise your in-game precision by properly mirroring your arm movements as opposed to a generic mouse, not only that, but training with a mouse that is inconsistent in movement will hinder your ability to train your aim as it will mess with your muscle (procedural) memory. Gaming mice also tend to offer much more comfortable ergonomic shapes which will give you a better grip, fit your hand better, and also allow you to go on extended gaming sessions without your hand feeling cramped / tired. It is important that you choose a mouse that has a flawless optical sensor (laser sensors are inaccurate), most modern gaming mice offer flawless sensors, but be sure to check before you buy your gaming mouse; Any 33XX sensor will work flawlessly, with the best sensors in the category being the 3360 and the 3366 along with the Logitech HERO sensor which is a low-power version of the 3360. Now, while precise sensors may be important what is even more important is finding a mouse that fits your hand well, this will depend on two things, one being your hand size, and the other being your grip style. I have created a guide (guide within a guide, nice) to help you measure your hand correctly, as well as understand grip styles.
Hand measurement guide:
In order to measure your hands for the purpose of finding a mouse you will want to measure two things, one is the length of your hand, like so: https://preview.redd.it/2dbuoebzwlv31.jpg?width=316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1b5b4653a5cc9a9ea8b284c99db765ee432767b The other is the width of your hand, like so: not my hands btw Once you have figure out the dimensions of your hand, the format in which mice are presented is L x W. I personally have large hands at 21.5x11 cm, I've been using the Zowie EC2-B Divina for the past year and I am very pleased with it as the shape and texture is ideal for me, being an improved DA shape with a 3360 sensor. The most important aspect of the dimensions in terms of determining which mouse is ideal is the length of your hand. After you have determined your hand size, you need to find out what grip style you use. There are three types of mouse grips, first we have the palm grip, then the claw grip, and finally the fingertip grip. Here is an image showing each grip. https://preview.redd.it/jytnxkf10mv31.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a57cb40687603a844aadd2cda9f436413a558ad5 Once you have the 'L x W' of your hand and have figured out what grip style you use, go to this link and you will be presented with a range of options for mice depending on your hand size and grip style. The recommendations have been put together by RocketJumpNinja himself, for those of you unfamiliar with who he is, he is a Quake player and marginally the best competitive mouse reviewer out there and I would trust him blindly for anything mouse related. Once you have found 1-2 mice you are interested in you can check his mouse reviews on YT for more detailed information on each mouse. Having tested a multitude of mice myself, I would say my favourites have been the Deathadder Elite, Zowie EC2-A and EC2-B series due to their ergonomic designs, and the G305 and GPW due to their flawless wireless capabilities. Other Important Peripherals: As i mentioned in my last guide, while your mouse is by far the most important piece of gaming equipment in your setup, it is also highly recommended that you have 1) A 144hz+ monitor (makes a huge difference and you can get one as cheap as $200) 2) an extra large mousepad 3) A decent mechanical keyboard (membrane keyboards are trash).
Section 2) optimal program settings for increased visibility + fps
This section will be shorter as everything mentioned here will be a technical step by step guide to insure that you are getting the best performance possible in Apex legends. For myself and many others, Apex legends runs smoothly but suffers from certain technical hiccups, such as: lag spikes, stuttering, fps drops, and input lag. I am playing on a 2080ti and yet I used to have these issues affect my gameplay constantly, to a point where I had stopped playing apex for months and only returned towards the end of S2. If you are experiencing any of the aforementioned issues, this step by step process will ensure that you get rid of them and have your game run smoothly. Note that if you have cheap PC components and you are getting low FPS due to that, this guide will not get you to that consistent 144fps goal, but will still improve your current FPS to some extent. There are multiple steps you need to take in order to squeeze every bit of performance out of your game, we'll start with application / file settings, and move on to optimal launch options and in-game settings. For the first optimisation you will want to go through is set the game to run on exclusive fullscreen permanently. To do this you will want to launch the Registry Editor. Once in the Registry Editor you want to navigate to: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\system\GameConfigStore\Children. You will see a bunch of series of numbers / letters here, what you will want to do is hit Ctrl + F which will open up 'Search' and search for "r5apex.exe", you'll find a folder called r5apex.exe or something similar, and you will delete that folder. What this step will do is enable your game to run at exclusive fullscreen mode, which the newer windows versions don't allow you to do for some idiotic reason, and this is far simpler and more convenient than a windows rollback. https://preview.redd.it/qbmzsm4bbmv31.png?width=1425&format=png&auto=webp&s=50e1dbc0da484036a708b1425b5d71911276d126 The next step you want to proceed with is creating an autoexec configuration file for Apex Legends. What an autoexec file does for those of you unfamiliar with the topic (csgo players will know this) is that it will enable you to set certain commands which will automatically be ran in the console every time you run the application corresponding to the file. First, you want to locate the install location for Apex on your PC. For me this is This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Origin Games > Apex. Click on the file called "cfg" and inside you will find a cfg file called "config_default_pc" make a 2nd copy of this file, open it, delete everything inside it, rename the file to "autoexec" and save it. Within this file you want to type in the following commands: hud_setting_minimapRotate 1 This will enable your minimap to rotate in game depending on the position you're facing relative to the map r_shadows 0 This will disable shadows for increased FPS r_fullscreen 1 This isn't fully necessary taking into consideration the previous step. Ensures fullscreen mode. mat_screen_blur_enabled 0 This will remove the blur effect from when you open up your inventory etc. mat_compressedtextures 1 Compresses textures / FPS increase cl_ragdoll_collide 0 Alters collisions possible in ragdoll physics / FPS increase m_rawinput 1 This enables raw input for your mouse, uncertain about if it was enabled on default so I included it optional commands: mat_letterbox_aspect_goal 1.33 mat_letterbox_aspect_threshold 1.33 These two commands in your autoexec will enable you to play on 4:3 resolutions without having black bars https://preview.redd.it/n10sy6vidmv31.png?width=1807&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6b16fb40813cc8079364cd314f490a74f3976f3 Next we will be setting the necessary launch options to enable our autoexec to run when we launch Apex, and to add some more optimisations to our game. In order to get to your launch options launch origin, go to "My Game Library", click on Apex, click on the gear icon below and to the left of 'Play', choose "Game Properties", and finally "Advanced Launch Options". In the text area which says "Command line arguments" add the following: +exec autoexec This will run your autoexec file when you launch the game +cl_showfps 4 This will provide an FPS counter in-game -fullscreen Self explanatory and once again unecessary but better safe than sorry -forcenovsync Disables V-Sync (vsync is horrible and causes mass input lag) -fps_max 190 I cap my fps because I feel like anything above 200 FPS in this game leads to screen tearing, could be wrong but once again, better safe than sorry. https://preview.redd.it/io7ixpd7fmv31.png?width=895&format=png&auto=webp&s=f63156ad487a56c1a280f5b7db59796abfd40337 Finally we have our in-game settings. This part is very simple, you basically want everything on low. Other than your texture streaming budget which should be on "High (4GB VRAM)" if you have a decent GPU, if you're on more of a budget GPU then you can lower this setting as well. https://preview.redd.it/xyynko1wfmv31.png?width=1238&format=png&auto=webp&s=10d7c6783f4098a86c56a7b75d913b0aa9ae663d
Section 3) Advanced Aim Training.
If you read my previous guide, you remember how greatly I emphasised training your aim consistently through "Kovaak's FPS aim trainer" for at least 30 - 60 minutes a day in order to see improvement in that aspect. This is a follow up to that for the people that have taken aim training seriously and want something a bit more advanced to allow their muscle memory to develop for a wider range of arm movements and scenarios. If you consider yourself to be a beginner / intermediate aimer you are better off following the warmup / training routine that I have posted in my first guide, if not, this is a routine which for those of you dedicated to improving your aim.
10 minutes - Tile Frenzy 180 - good warmup
10 minutes - 1wall6targets TE - good point & click training
10 minutes - 1wall 6targets small - same as above but more precise due to significantly smaller targets
10 minutes - 1wall5targets_pasu - (tracking mode) - good tracking training for moving targets
4 runs - Air - one of the most difficult large movement tracking scenarios
5 minutes - Thin Aiming Long Invincible - smooth tracking / arm movement training
5 minutes - Popcorn - tough training for learning how to properly "click heads"
10 minutes - McCoy 1v1 - good single fire training vs. strafing targets / good wingman training
In addition to having more difficult scenarios as part of your training routine, there is an extra step necessary in order to push yourself to improve your aiming mechanics, that is, instead of playing 'Free Play' on these aim training scenarios, play the "challenge" modes. Initially you want to aim for scores above the 'median', as you continue training aim to break your own record as many times within a week as you can. Don't be demotivated if the general 'median' scores are high in Kovaak's, as the average aimer doesn't play challenge mode in Kovaak's to begin with, so the scores you're seeing are above average to begin with. All you should aim for initially as I said is "above average", and within 2 weeks you will see improvement to your scores. If you reach the top 100 ranking in any challenge scenario you know you're doing something very right. https://preview.redd.it/gptgsd1ojmv31.png?width=266&format=png&auto=webp&s=1f5c7a2f78416a718c5cc7cc5fde1c1eccaa0495 Alternatives to Kovaak's FPS aim trainer: If you cannot afford Kovaak's for whatever reason (It's worth the $10 just buy it), you can use 3DAimTrainer or AimLabs instead, or even simply play FFA DM in community csgo servers with your apex ADS sens (HSDM even better for aim training) and monitor your score there, as CSGO sens scaling is the same as apex. Keep note that these alternatives are sub-optimal and I wouldn't recommend them for aim training as I don't have any training routines to offer for those, although if they are your only option it's better than nothing. Note: Don't spend over an hour or two (max) a day on aim training itself as you need a combination of aim training and in-game experience in order to properly improve. If you only play aim trainers you will develop bad habits as you are simply training vs targets in very specific scenarios and not actual players that can think for themselves.
Section 4) Positioning yourself to win in ranked.
I have said on multiple occasions that Apex is 90% about aim, and while this may be true in my case as someone with over 10k hours in FPS games, it may not be the same for everyone. Aim is definitely the dominant factor in distinguishing a good player from a bad player in apex, but there is one certain very important thing which is just as transferable as aim from one FPS game to another, and that is positioning. Positioning is everything in BR games, and people fail to understand this. As many great players will tell you, positioning and general gamesense are many times more important than aim in determining the outcome of a fight. The way you move, the angles you hold, and your position on the map relative to the enemy can sometimes turn the best players into bots if they choose to engage with you. The problem with "learning" to position yourself is that you effectively can't, all you can do is take note of the mistakes you make in this context while playing, and try to consciously avoid those bad habits during your games. Let's break down the three points I mentioned initially.
Active movement / Keyboard input
First off we have individual movement, which means the active movement as an outcome of your keyboard input, one of the first things you need to learn in this context is strafing. Strafing is the action of moving from left to right while engaging in combat / shooting at your opponent, this may sound as simple as spamming your A and D keys while shooting, and technically it is, but there are many other factors to consider. Luckily the accuracy factor while moving in Apex is still 100% during ADS, so you don't need to worry about that while strafing in comparison to e.g. games like csgo, but you will still need to learn how to keep accurate while strafing, and how to strafe in relation to your opponents movement so that you can be as hard as possible to hit. The solution to my first presented dilemma would be to either start up Kovaak's and run some scenarios while strafing instead of standing still to get used to the crosshair / aim adjustment while moving so you can learn to compensate for the repositioning, while the solution to the second dilemma is more complex. Imagine a scenario where you and your opponent are standing 5m away from each other on open ground in train yard ADS'ing each other with a wingman (wingman has 100% ADS move speed) you are both on level ground and strafing from left to right, if you don't actively adjust your strafing to counteract his, you may find yourself in a situation where you're simply mirroring his strafes. In that situation you're effectively making yourself a static target relative to your opponent and you are incredibly easy to hit, you need to practice strafing as an active behavior before it can become subconscious, otherwise you will just be nonsensically spamming your "A" / "D" keys and not effectively hindering the shooter's accuracy onto you. Since apex legends has other movement mechanics such as climbing, sliding, and abilities you should also learn to utilise those aspects of the game in order to make yourself as hard to hit as possible, it doesn't matter what the action is, just never stand still, the harder you make yourself to hit, the higher the chances are that you win the fight, the reason this is harder to do than it sounds as mentioned before, is that you need to learn to move around while in combat while also maintaining the same accuracy, having great movement but effectively sacrificing 50% of your accuracy won't do much to win you a fight. Shortly climbing walls / wall jumping can also be good ways of making yourself harder to hit while in fights, if you don't know how to wall jump it's pretty simple, all you need to do is run for 1.5 seconds minimum, slide towards a wall, jump at the end of your slide while releasing your forward move key (W) and then jump again when you hit the wall and look toward the direction you want to "bounce" in.
Another aspect of positioning which is crucial in order to get you to win more fights is playing the right angles. You need to be able to assume the outcome of a scenario before engaging in a fight, if the enemy team has highground in trainyard, and has fenced off the windows / entrances as wattson, and you choose to engage the team, you are forced to fight them from lowground while simultaneously allowing them to maintain their position. You will lose this fight 100% of the time because: 1) The enemy can force you to trade fire in the angle they choose since they don't need to reposition and you can only hit them if they peek you. 2) The enemy can stop and heal safely whenever they want 3) It is much more difficult to accurately hit targets partially peeking from an elevated position in relation to you. In this scenario you should know not to engage the team as is, as that will lead to a wipe. Let's discuss potential DPS here, Potential DPS is the amount of DPS possible on a target in the current instance if every single shot hits the target. The potential DPS you have on a Pathfinder behind a wall is 0, The potential DPS you have on a pathfinder full body peeking you for 10 seconds straight = The amount of damage the weapon you're holding can output in 10 seconds, and the potential DPS on a pathfinder jigglepeeking behind a wall depends on the effectiveness of his movement. In the Wattson / Trainyard scenario the enemy has a much higher potential DPS on you if you choose to engage in a fight, therefore it is wiser to avoid it until they reposition, or force them to reposition. When holding angles you want to force your enemies to reposition to your liking so you can maximize your potential DPS, if you are peeking a 90 degree angle from behind a tree, and you know an enemy is going to push you within the next second, you are already pre-aiming the enemy and therefore maximizing your potential DPS, while he has to turn the corner, locate your exact position, move his crosshair onto you, and start firing. In such situations you should always win the DPS trade unless your weapon doesn't allow you to due to the damage cap, e.g. a p2020 vs. a wingman.
Finally the last aspect of positioning that you need to take into account in order to win your games (this is especially important in ranked) is learning when and how to rotate. This is not a topic that I can go too in detail about since you need to experience team rotations on your own, and me covering this entire aspect of movement would effectively mean that I create a graph of every single potential rotation on the map relative to drop zones. Rotations in apex are the group movement of a team from point 'a' to point 'b', in contrast with individual / active movement this is a different issue you have to tackle which relates much more to experience and gamesense than your mechanical input. When you play ranked games keep an eye out for common drops and where people choose to move to once they have dropped, e.g. Teams that drop refinery and survive tend to move to epicenter after the initial looting phase, or teams that skyhook tend to move to drill site and then train yard, etc. etc. In terms of rotations you need to be roughly aware of where the teams currently are on the map, obviously you won't be able to know 100% of the time the exact location of other players, but it is useful to be able to tell "Oh we're in trainyard right now and we just finished looting, I know there's a team over at Depot, and a couple in capitol city, and the ring is closing out Capitol therefore the teams there will be moving towards us". This awareness skill is something which will save you from wiping many times, especially in higher ranks, knowing not to take a route when zone is closing because a team will be gatekeeping the zone is crucial.
Stop running away!
The final aspect I wanted to briefly mention is the whole ranked playstyle which seems to be engrained in the brains of mid-lower rank players in gold and platinum, which is that they play in a way which involves camping buildings and running from fights the entirety of the game in order to get placement RP. This is not something that will help you improve in the game, nor something that will get you RP the fastest, and will ultimately lead to you being hardstuck in a rank you can't mechanically compete in even if this works for you, nobody likes having that one teammate that can't fend for themselves in a gunfight, or that teammate that drops alone and camps the edge of the zone for the entire game. Instead of running away, utilise the aspects of positioning and movement that I mentioned above, learn to reposition yourself in fights rather than to run away from them. If you don't feel confident in going all out on an enemy squad you can simply position yourself to have an advantageous angle and simply poke away at the enemy for any damage you can put in, this is highly effective in the new meta to begin with due to the larger open map. All you do by running from squads is effectively reduce your potential DPS to 0, and your kill potential to 0. Your best bet if you are not an agressive player is to beat your enemy in the positioning game, and then try to break their shields as often as possible, this will end up in three ways. 1) You manage to break the shields often enough that they can't afford to stay in the same position and reposition / run, effectively eliminating the threat of that squad. 2) You force the enemy to push, in which case you have the advantageous angle to begin with and should win the fight due to marginally higher potential DPS. 3) You knock an enemy and open up an opportunity for a 3v2 push, in which case you should win 90% of those fights, especially in cases like this where you have full control of your position in relation to the enemies. I hope this guide was of any help to you, I will be replying to comments actively. Feel free to PM me about any Kovaak's inquiries. As a side note, make sure to keep on top of your sleeping schedule, training 10 hours a day means nothing if you are sleeping 2 hours a day, as your brain can't actively process the information it has stored during the day if your sleeping patterns are inconsistent and incomplete, and a lot of that procedural memory goes to waste. Have fun, and good luck in your games.
I Have About 800$ to Finish My First Build. Looking For Opinions and Feedback!
Hello, buildapc I'm new to building a pc, but I've done quite a bit of research and thought into the list I've put together. What I'd like from you is to lend me your expertise and tell me if there is anything glaringly wrong with the build/any tips for building that might be easily overlooked. Have you read the sidebar and [rules](http://www.reddit.com/buildapc/wiki/rules)? (Please do) And memorized it. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. I intend for this to be a good entry into the pc gaming world at a reasonable price. I'll be doing a bit of multitasking like streaming, listening to music, and gaming. For gaming, I'll be mostly playing esports games like Rocket League and csgo, but definitely intend to do some larger games like GTA, BFV. I'd like this pc to be able to handle running esports games at either med-low quality @ high fps and the larger games at med-high quality @ ~60+ fps while running background apps like discord, spotify, and a browser without stuttering or struggling too hard. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) My main monitor (the one I'll be gaming on) is 1080p @144hz. The biggest priority is reaching a constant 144hz without stutter for the esports games, ideally without having to reduce the quality to lowest settings. I intend to seriously compete on this. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? As you will see in the upcoming PartPicker list, I already have some parts purchased. So for the remaining 5 parts(CPU, GPU, MOBO, RAM, Case), I have a budget of about 800-900. My intention is to have this build be as cheap as possible without giving up all luxuries. All of my parts were chosen carefully so they at the very least met all of my needs. In what country are you purchasing your parts? Massachusetts, US Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). [Consider formatting your parts list.](http://www.reddit.com/buildapc/wiki/pcpp) Don't ask to be spoon-fed a build (read the rules!). PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
Provide any additional details you wish below. I know, the PSU is a bit of an overkill, but my friend gave it to me for 50$ and its still in the box. Is it bad to have something this big? Also I think we can ignore the PSU/Case incompatibility flag as the warning says the psu is 180mm long and needs to be 175mm, but on the box it says the psu is 160mm long. Don't worry I have more storage that I just can't find on pcpartpicker. It's just some 2TB Hdd. I think I'm pretty set on the Pro Carbon AC for the mobo (I intend to overclock to some degree) and the Vengeance LPX for the ram. I'm not so set on the cpu. I chose the r7 1700 because it gives 8 cores, is capable of overclocking to 3.7-4Ghz, and comes with a great stock cooler. I'm not sold that it is great for gaming at higher fps, but it seemed to be a solid price/performance ratio. Should i go to the 2600x to lose two cores but get better performance per core? Also when I checked the RAM/mobo compatibility, the 2x16 and 2x4 kits are verified, but the 2x8 isn't explicitly working or not. It should still work right? Is this a risk worth taking? Another is the GPU. From my research, it seems that a 1060 is capable of meeting all my needs at a good pricepoint, but there are so many variants all with varying information on benchmarks. I chose the MSI gaming x because it was the cheapest at the time, but I've read that any of the MSI gaming series 1060's are the superior cards. Lastly, the case. This is something I could go cheaper on, but the Meshify C had great reviews and looks good. Add that to my need of good airflow, and it seemed like a good bet. Timeframe I'd like to have this built before May, unless there is a serious reason to wait. Noob Questions What is a good thermal paste? Do I need to get case fans? How do I set up case fans? Why am I nervous to screw this up? Is this post's formatting alright? I feel like I'm hitting enter too much. plz halp.
Ryzen vs Intel - M.2 & SATA vs Octane/StoreMI combination
TL;DR - I want to upgrade to a new CPU and don't know which to pick based on my personalized used. Other than gaming I have a million tabs open and I multitask on 3-4 monitors. The new Optane/StoreMI tech makes my decision harder since it might have a big impact on my choice. The CPU in context are Intel i7 8700K and Ryzen 7 2700X. Suggestions to similar CPUs is also appretiated. I want to hear about some pros and cons regarding the two CPU's in regards with how I personally use my computer. I have read many posts and article about the two and I cannot for the heck in me figure out which will serve as the best bet for me in the long run. So here goes: I am planning on slowly upgrading my rig overtime. Mostly likely starting with a CPU/motherboard/ram switch, due to fact that I want more and faster disk place. My current rig is the following: CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K MOBO: ASUS P89P67 Deluxe GFX: MSI GeForce GTX 960 2GB TIGER 2X DISK: Intel SSD 256GB & a bunch of HDDs RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16 GB (4x4GB) Monitors and general usage: First of all I will explain what my usages are for my computer. I have a triple monitor setup (3 x 1080p 144Hz). I also have my TV conneted to my computer which I use, but very rarily together. I am planning on getting a minimum 27" 1440p 144Hz monitor in the future for quad monitor setup and the 1440p monitor as my main for gaming. I am the type of person to have over 40 tabs open on google chrome which are present whenever I am using my computer. I tend to Focus on 1 main task on my middle monitor, watch a stream or video on my 2nd monitor and have chats or a website where I am reading sometihng on the side on the 3rd monitor. On the quad monitor setup I will be using the 4th monitor for streaming purposes. Storage space: Secondly, what I get as my motherboard will also reflect my future storing system, so I will go through my thoughts concering storage. Originally I had in mind to get myself the following storage rig: System disk: 500gb M.2 intel 760p (on sale) Main gaming disk: 1TB sata SSD (Samsung EVO 860 or similar) Media storage: 4-6TB HDD WD blue But after realising the technologies of Intel Optane and and AMD StoreMI I am lost on whether having / using these will be better than my original idea. When comparing the price / value. I want to make sure that I do not sink in quality and that I am assured for a longterm solution.I am planning on having media and anything that I don't use frequantly on my media hdd. I am also planning on using the same disk for saving stream content on the fly while streaming. Some people recommend saving it on an SSD and moving it to prevent straining the HDD. My gaming disk will be a storage for most of my frequent game which will easily take around 1TB space. The system disk will have that one or 2 games and I play every single day such as CSGO and my stuff relating to programming and installing things that you don't mind reinstalling after a a fresh installation of Windows from time to time.* StoreMI or Octane might be a good solution for this as it uses the SSD for the frequent files. But the thing is I don't want to lose too much performance. If I will get noticably better performance with my original idea of storage setup for around 100-200 usd more, I would maybe rather do that. At the moment I don't know enough about the new technologies to choose. *I do enjoy having seperate volumes to an extent. I like having a smaller storage space with windows and other utils that I can wipe and a bigger storage that I don't have to touch after reinstalling windows Considering these thoughts and my usage of a computer on a daily basis. Which CPU / motherboard combination do you suggest I get. In regards to Optane/StoreMI, it seems that StoreMI is seems to be more flexible. But is it truly better than Optane and why? In any case the choice on this reflects on my choice of CPU/mobo.
About to pull the trigger in an update, need a last check.
Hello. This is my build from 2 years ago more or less. I have saved something + a birthday gift is 'urging' me to update my (highly) outdated GPU and my old and low quality monitor. I would like to buy a gtx 1080 (on euros, germany, amazon.de) and a viewsonic XG2401 (24" 1080p 144hz).
Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Yes What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. Playing a variety of games, from CSGO to witcher 3 as better as possible. The possible games I would like to try now are Monster Hunter world and R6 siege. If possible, just for helping a friend who's inside that world, a little bit of streaming. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) 1080p 144hz because 1440p it's really expsnsive. If you guys give me the advice to bet on 1440p 60hz then it would be that one, but I've always heard 144hz is better. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? about 700€ In what country are you purchasing your parts? Spain and Germany **Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Provide any additional details you wish below. So the parts I only need to buy are the 1080 and the monitor. I've been also looking for 1070ti but a lot of people told me that for 50€ more you can get the 1080 and gain some performance. That the 1070ti it's not really worth it when its price is too close to the older brother. I would keep my current monitor as a secondary, is a monitor tv 1080p 60hz with quite a low quality in colour and image but for reading, multi task or TV could be a very good idea keeping it around. I have seen more competitive prices on amazon.de about 1070ti and 1080s but monitors are (sometimes) better in Spain. My biggest problem is that I really don't know if I'm being smart, but at the same time I have the feeling I can't be wront with a 1080. It's 1080p144hz good? Thanks a lot and sorry for possible grammar mistakes, english is not my first language.
Hello. I posted this some days ago on buildapc. Apparently it's a good idea to wait for September just in case there's a price drop, however I'm not sure it will happen or if it will be big. This is my build from 2 years ago more or less. I have saved something + a birthday gift is 'urging' me to update my (highly) outdated GPU and my old and low quality monitor. My idea, after the update, is to play Monster Hunter and R6 siege (if i'm not dirt poor). If possible, just for helping a friend who's inside that world, a little bit of streaming. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) 1080p 144hz because 1440p it's really expensive in here. If you guys give me the advice to bet on 1440p 60hz then it would be that one, but I've always heard 144hz is better. Anyway, my preference is 1080p144hz. Hello everyone. It's Me again. After my previous post blew up i have received hundreds of questions and PM's about "what to do" about their builds and if they need an upgrade etc. Please read through the original post (https://www.reddit.com/buildapc/comments/8rt8uy/recent_pc_part_deals_and_what_it_means_for_you/) and its follow up comments as I think it covered 95% of possibilities out there. So, in this post i would like to cover the other 5% and hopefully wrap up some of the most common questions I received. This is not a "will I mess up my first time", "don't forget your I/O shield", post. I think that has been covered so many times since the 90's that my 5 year old probably knows what she's doing. Lets get started!
How can I save money on my build:
This is a good question. The first thing is understanding needs vs wants. We all want 8k at 144hz trust me...i do too but Linus has not given me a clear path to heaven yet. Save money by doing the following tips.
Do not use RGB. This can chip into your budget.
Don't buy the most powerful CPU out there. (Although, as I mentioned in my first linked above, don't go for 4 threads.) If you are trying to save money you are probably not buying a GTX 1080/ti. If it is slower than those two GPU's, any current 6 thread or higher CPU (or even older gen) can handle your GPU. Maxing out processors is very hard and even current testing methodology is not pushing them to the extreme limit. So you do not need Intel to get the best gaming performance as those CPU's in 99% of cases will not be maxed out. But what will bottle neck you is cores/thread count as for example the Wither 3 uses pretty much my entire 6700k.
Get a cheaper case. You do not need a side panel window. Its a want, not a need. If the case has bad reviews for cable management skip it.
Mechanical keyboards are expensive. Trust me in 99% of gaming scenarios ANY keyboard and basic laser mouse will do JUST FINE. Yes there are budget versions...but I have only used about 3 that are worth it.
Buy Ryzen. Because it comes with a good stock cooler (that just saved you anywhere between 30$ and 100$).
Buy a non modular PSU. If you followed this advice above, you dont have a window, and therefore it doesn't matter if your cables are a bit messy. Just use a dremel tool and remove your hard drive bays for more space.
Buy a PCIE wifi card instead of an AC motherboard. AC motherboards are relatively expensive, and if you get a 50$ motherboard and a 15-20$ wifi card, it will be cheaper than like an Asrock itx b350 AC.
Should I water cool?
Depends. I have seen some nice water coolers on sale (like the white captain ex 240 for 65$) that rival ANY air cooler in its price range. So it depends on price. Like I said above, ryzen cpu's come with a decent enough air cooler that is relatively quiet. If you need a better cooler, the Cryorig H7 is by far the best "budget" cooler out there. Its 35$ and it destroys the hyper 212 evo, and keeps my overclocked 6700k nice and cool under 70 degrees at all times. So if you NEED a cooler, that should be your pick. Do I recommend water coolers? Not really. Air coolers are generally more reliable and cheaper. Are they cool...HELL yeah. 3) What size motherboard should I get? Depends. If you do not know here is the size hierarchy of motherboards. The smallest is mini ITX. These are the most limited but smallest motherboards out there. Micro ATX is next. Its small enough to fit any Small Form Factor (SFX)/mini tower case. It has more slots, and generally does not differ from the larger ATX motherboard. The ATX motherboard is BIG. You do need a mid/full tower case for these and they come with the most slots and connections possible at the cost of taking up lots of space. Now if all you will have is 2 memory sticks and one gpu, a micro ATX is the perfect middle ground. It will have enough SATA connections for all your storage needs as well as enough room for future upgrades. Get the motherboard that you NEED. Most people do not need a 100$ motherboard, although some of the sub 100$ motherboards are REALLY bad. 4) What do all the motherboard numbers/letters mean? (simplified explanation inbound)
X470 is high end, has every possible feature.
X370 (x470 but for 1000 series ryzen, can be bios updated for 2000 series).
B350 is a cheaper x470/x370 motherboard that has less ports/connections but still allows you to overclock (also known as the bang for buck board hence the B).
A320 is a motherboard that you can get by with. It has the same performance but lacks overclocking support as well as it has practically the BARE minimum connectivity options.
Intel LGA 1151 (6000 - 8000 series)
Z series - z170/z270/z370 is the high end main stream board. Has every possible feature. EXCEPT you cant bios update them to support next gen CPU's, so z170 is for 6000 series, z270 is for 7000 series, and z370 is for 8000 series.
H series - H110/H170/H270/H370 is the mid range Intel board. It does not allow you to overclock, so if you have a NON K series cpu stick with this.
B/Q/C series - These are specialized motherboards for things like Business and so on. Honestly some are worth it and some are not. If you have a NON K CPU you can get by with these.
SLI/Crossfire - Ability to run 2 or more GPU's at the same time (adds cost to the motherbaord)
AC - Wifi capable (adds cost to the motherboard
PCI-E - the connector used for your GPU. Typically you want at least ONE x16 capable slot although even at x8 you shouldn't have any issues unless you're running a 1080/1080ti. Heck mining rigs use x1 so...
5)What is Free Sync and G Sync and what is the difference? Free sync is the term AMD uses for monitors that are capable of DYNAMICALLY adjusting the REFRESH RATE to MATCH the FPS output of your GPU. G Sync is the same except its NVidia. GSycn monitors cost more because they need a special chip inside to enable GSync. Freesync is cheaper. Both have a RANGE where they operate, such as between 35 and 75 fps. That means if you go higher than 75 fps, the monitor will only refresh at 75 fps, and if your GPU goes lower than 35 FPS, the monitor cannot go any lower than 35 FPS (or Hz, whatever). This system reduces screen tear (https://goo.gl/images/N7QiRd). If you are outputting 100 fps and your monitor tops out at 75 hz, you will NOT see the other frames. So if your monitor is only a 60Hz monitor, what is the point of buying a GTX 1080ti if you wont see the full benefit. This rolls into the next question: 6) What monitor should I get? Which ever one you want! This is personal preference but there are a few things to note.
If you have an AMD GPU, you will most likely want to get a FREE Sync capable monitor. For NVidia gpu's you might want a GSYNC monitor.
What about 144hz? Yes 144hz does look SMOOTHER than 60/75 hz. But I only recommend it for HIGH END GPU's or less demanding games that benefit from it like CSGO. The more frames the lower the input latency in competitive games, so if you can output alot of frames, go for 144hz.
How many fps can the human eye see? anywhere between 1 and a zillion. Eyes are a LIVE feed of the environment so if you have bad eyes....sucks for you. I wouldn't worry about it since console gamer's have been playing on 30fps for ages and were just fine.
IPS - This typically means the Monitor looks better.
LED/OLED back-lit, this means you will have a more vibrant display as well as a MUCH higher contrast ration. LCD back-lit lights up the whole display where as LED/OLED lights up only pixel by pixel, so if a pixel is black, the light in that pixel is OFF, and provides a "true" black.
Should i get 16gb of slow ram or 8gb of fast ram?
Honestly the price difference between ram speeds is not that great. If you are buying Ryzen or using integrated graphics, get faster ram. If you are using integrated, make sure you get 2 sticks of ram and run dual channel as this greatly impacts gaming performance on IGPU's. I do recommend always running dual channel. Some say the performance benefit is negligible but that extra bit wont cost you more. One stick of 8gb and 2 sticks of 4gb cost almost the same. Intel CPU's are less sensitive to RAM speeds, but sometimes I see 3000mhz ram that is cheaper than 2666mhz ram. Also it depends if you are on DDR3 ram or DDR4 ram. DDR3 ram benefits form higher speeds more than DDR4. If you are using a z series Intel motherboard or a AMD motherboard that supports overclocking like b350/x370, you can overclock your ram safely. I have 2133mhz ram running at 3000mhz or so. I added .1 volts and haven't had issues since. So consider that too. As far as capacity, my system at any given time is using about 4.5gb or more of my RAM, I have 16gb. Windows 10, even though faster than windows 7, uses more RAM (thanks cortana) and if you use Chrome...you NEED more RAM. I have 5 fire fox tabs open, MS outlook, Steam, and discord open. That is it. And I am at 6gb of ram usage. Now this also means that if you have more RAM the system will try to PRELOAD common tasks into ram, using more ram. If you have less RAM the system will simply buffer less tasks and your load times of some programs may be affected. You can game at 8GB of RAM, that is true. So if you are on a tight budget BUT YOU HAVE A GPU (not integrated), get one stick of 8 GB and then buy the same stick and make 16 leter. Do you need a heat spreader on your ram? No. I have had lots of ram without heat spreaders and as long as you cooler and case move air past the ram, you should be okay. Ryzen coolers do a good job with this. IF you have an air cooler, make sure the fan is facing parallel to the ram that way it sucks air past the ram to cool it. If you have a water cooler, get a heat spreader, because there is no fan next to the ram. Heat spreaders are mostly just for looks, and RGB. Also they take up space which means some air coolers wont be able to fit on your motherboard because the ram is too high. I recommend LPX/Low Profile memory if you have an air cooler. 8) How should I set up my case fans? https://www.howtogeek.com/303078/how-to-manage-your-pcs-fans-for-optimal-airflow-and-cooling/ 9) SSD/ Hybrid/ or Hard Drive? If you are on a budget, get a small SSD for windows and a Hybrid drive (I recommend the Seagate firecuda) for all your games and stuff. Hard drives in my opinion are great, but they are SO SLOW. Ever since I got a hybrid drive for my general storage, life has become so much faster. But if you have the extra money, just get one SSD. I know it all depends on budget but an SSD is one of those things that I would not skip unless you are building a potato (which isn't wrong, we have all been there). Yes, a 7200 RPM drive is faster than a 5600 RPM drive. Does cache matter? Sort of. More cache means slightly faster read/write speeds but its not that big of a deal. I have a hard drive but my write/read speeds are really slow for some reason? Its probably worn out. I had a 500GB WD Black and after 6 years it was just time to go in the garbage. It was just worn out. It happens, hence why SSD's are better. 10) Static Pressure fans? What is this? Those are for water coolers. Radiators are thicc and need special fans that can force air through them. 11) Power supply's: PC parts picker does a great job estimating your over all power consumption. If you are not planning to upgrade buy a PSU that is 10-15% more than what it says. Never go bellow 80+ Bronze rating. What is this rating?
No rating is the worst < 80+ < 80+ bronze < 80+ gold < everything else like diamond and platinum
The basic 80 Plus rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 80% efficiency at 20% load, 50% load, and 100% load.
The 80 Plus Bronze rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 82% efficiency at 20% load, 85% at 50% load, and 82% at 100% load.
The 80 Plus Silver rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 85% efficiency at 20% load, 88% at 50% load, and 85% at 100% load.
The 80 Plus Gold rating meas that the PSU is rated for at least 87% efficiency at 20% load, 90% at 50% load, and 87% at 100% load.
The 80 Plus Platinum(bet you didn't know there was a Platinum) rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 90% efficiency at 20% load, 92% at 50% load, and 89% at 100% load.
80+ Bronze is good enough unless you are sucking lots of power. Like my mining rigs. If you are using like 300w, you don't really need 100% efficiency because you wont save that much power. But going lower undermines the PSU quality and could mean it has cheap internals. We don't want anyone's house burning down do we? Modula Semi modula Non Modular? There are some great prices on PSU's these days and semi modular simply means that most of your connectors can be unplugged from the PSU, saving space, but unlike full modular PSU's, the Semi modular PSU has the MOST IMPORTANT CONNECTOR hard wired so you wont forget it. This is the CPU power and 24pin motherboard power. I mean, EVERYONE NEEDS THIS ONE. 12) what version of Windows should I get? The cheapest windows 10 you can... honestly unless you need the couple of advances functions of the pro don't bother. 13)Can you take a look at my build and see if anything needs to be changed? Ask this subreddit, I am sure if you are building a PC you have done your research and are worried enough about your investment to make sure you are doing the right thing. But please...stop pairing 8700k's with gtx 1050's...... I hope this helps. I know this has been said time and again around the internet but it seems like people ask the same question over and over.

The tactics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the CT setups will seem overly complex or even stupid. There's also Stewie's genius play making which is deftly woven into his play style - his personal decision making draws heavily from Shox and Get_Right demos, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these strats, to realize that they're not just genuis- they say something deep about the game itself. As a consequence people who dislike c9 truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the genius is Tarik's decision of playing pop, despite rush being the best pop player in NA . I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Tarik and Stewie's genius unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Cloud 9 tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. If anyone knows how he does it on what gamemodes, maps etc. It would be appreciated ---------------------------------------------- So... I am new to CS:GO. Yes. I have less then 120 hours. When I first played rank, I got highest tear Silver. idk what that is. Masters? So after a few games with trolls, I ended up silver 3, and im now like... silver 4. I main the XM1014, 2 flashes, a incenderary and a smoke. Both sides. This information is just to give you guys a general understanding of my experience. So, now here is my actual question. It is about the sound in game. My Headset is a Logitech G930. It is super nice and comfy, and blocks out a lot of noise. The microphone is noise canceling ( yada yada yada ). If playing on Dust II and I am in palace ( upper tunnels ) I can hear a player running on catwalk. Or if I am on catwalk, I can hear the small little beeping of someone planting a bomb on B site. I can hear the smallest things sometimes. It happens in other games, and it happens in CS:GO. In game, A lot of people when playing with me ask " Why you looking at the ground. " " Why don't you have your shotgun at head level ". My answer is always, I am listening. For some odd reason, I hear the enemy through walls better, if my Characters ear, is facing the wall in question. So if they are in upper tunnels, and I am outside on B site, I hear better if I am parallel to the wall, then looking at the opening. I have been told, it doesnt work in this game. This game doesn't have ( directional sound systems? ) good sound systems. It is very simple and plain. I mean, its a fair argument, but no one has flat out told me why or given me evidence. I know there are games where if an enemy shoots, and you turn around, the sound changes between headphone speakers. In some games, it doesn't. If it is shot on your left side, and you turn, it stays on the left because it registered there. My question is... are my listening methods... plausible? In real life, if you are on one side of a wall, and you put your ear to it, you can hear things on the other side better. I know CS:GO isn't real life, but It seems to be my only reasoning to this. Suppose this isn't true and you think I am bullshitting though. Is there an article about the sound system in CS:GO that explains it? And why is it that I can do it? Or is it that maybe I have fooled myself into thinking its true because It feels like other games and I just go with it? I would love some input on this discussion, please. ---------------------------------------------- just dont understand, how can u guys type #freeswag? this guy is burglar, he is bandit, he is water rat, he is snatcher. But what most don't know, is that this sentence is actually a huge lie. As far as we know, tears consist of water and 0,9 gram salt per litre. And both of these ingredients are not free. Here I listed the price for 10 litre tears for the countries of the G8. I used the following formula (price is in US Dollar): (Price 100 gram salt/100)x9 + (Price 1 cubic litre wate100) = Price for 10 Litre Tears France: 0,20 $ Italy: 0,17 $ Germany: 0,19 $ United Kingdom: 0,22 $ USA: 0,18 $ Canada: 0,18 $ Japan: 0,18 $ Russia: 0,16 $ That means Russia has the cheapest cry. ---------------------------------------------- Summary: Shots 1-5: Clearly missed. The gold novas understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the beauty of this gun, to realize that it's not just a superior weapon- it has a huge impact on our LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike P90 truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in gold nova's existencial catchphrase "RUSH B BLYAT," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. Hello everyone! I'm planning to buy my first computer after a long time waiting! Yay! As I am not an expert or close to one, I am having a hard time finding answers to my questions and doubts. I read a bit on the subreddit and you all seem to love to give feedbacks so here we go!
What is your intended use for this build? Gaming : CSGO & Rocket League mainly but also PUBG, Rust and other future interesting game asking a lot of ressources. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) Steady 300 FPS in CS:GO. For all the other game I would like to have good framerates with game settings in High. Resolution would be probably 1920*1080. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? As I plan on investing right now to not change parts for the next 3-5 years, I plan to put around 3000€ (~3706$) with peripherals included (screen, mouse, keyboard and headset). I would appreciate feedbacks on this choice already. Is investing a good move? Should I invest more now because of new video games demanding more and more resources? Or in the contrary, is my build too overkill already? In what country are you purchasing your parts? France. Here is my potential build: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
Provide any additional details you wish below. As you can see, I choose to treat myself and take a BenQ - XL2540 for its 240Hz (that came out in 2016 already). I bet that 240Hz will become the norm and I don't want to invest in a monitor later, is this a good choice? Is there a better monitor coming out soon that will surpass this one? Is the 240Hz worth it compared to a 144Hz (a LOT of different opinion on the internet with this one!!) I looked on the internet and some are saying that you get stutter if you don't get 240FPS with a 240Hz monitor. If this is true, is the screen worth it with my current build? Concerning my build in general: Could one of the part cause bottlenecking or not be at the same "level" at the other (and slow the whole thing down)? Thanks a lot for your answers, you are the real MVPs!
Build Help: Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Yes. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. My intended use for this PC will be mostly gaming. I plan on taking it back to school with me since I will have a single room so I will run basic business applications and potentially dabble in data analytics. I like the idea of trying streaming one day, but not sure if that will happen. I play a wide variety of games including WoW, CSGO, PUBG, StarCraft, and several others. I would love to be able to run all of these games with high settings (except for PUBG for now due to poor optimization) without any hiccups. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) I'm mostly looking for great 1080p 144hz performance for now, with the ability to move up to 1440p 144hz later on when I raise more funds. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? $1500 In what country are you purchasing your parts? US Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!). PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
This build seems like a pretty neat setup for me. I am going for a white and black theme so I am open to suggestions with parts. I am going to try and pull some parts from my old PC, which includes an 850W PSU (not sure the grade), an SSD, and a hardrive that will be fine. I can get the OS for free hopefully, but I'll need a mouse and a nice mechanical (quiet) keyboard. I like the idea of a cherry mx strafe, but open to suggestions. I have never overclocked a CPU or GPU before but I am open to trying both carefully to increase my performance. I have $1500 to spend on it so any recommendations to push it closest to that as possible under my specifications is very welcomed and appreciated. Provide any additional details you wish below. I've been seriously conflicted between Intel and AMD with this build and really have no idea what is the best bet for me. I like the sound of future proofing my PC, but I also love the thought of higher FPS. Let me know what you think on this topic. I also have a water cooling system in my current PC if that becomes an issue with the Intel chip so that doesn't need to be included in the budget. Thanks all! NOTE: You do not have to follow this format, but please be sure to answer these questions. Please do not ask to simply be given a build. You are welcome to delete this section.
Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) You bet I have. Took me quite awhile to come up with this and want to me sure before purchasing. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. The main use will be for FPS and MMO's. Mostly CSGO and Elder Scrolls online. I dabble in other things, but those are the main games I play. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings) Mostly just want a straight upgrade to my current PC. I normally get 60ish fps in CSGO. The ultimate plan would be to get a 144hz monitor to go with this, but probably can't afford that right now. Looking to build this to last a few years and still handle most games on above average settings. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? Give or take $1300. In what country are you purchasing your parts? The US. Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
Provide any additional details you wish below. A few additional notes, the reason I went with the 4770 is that I have a old computer I received that i can transfer it out and everything I looked at (benchmarks) puts that ahead of most. I do not intend on overclocking my pc at all. Also, I have the PSU as well. Any and all critiques/advice are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time to look over my PC build. NOTE: You do not have to follow this format, but please be sure to answer these questions. Please do not ask to simply be given a build. You are welcome to delete this section.
