Just like Rocket CrossFit changed to Rocket Community Fitness, to me, it would be great if this became a trend.

Stop Hate for Profit: Peloton spends 76% of their marketing budget on Facebook, while 180+ companies are quitting the platform over hate speech. Why won't Peloton join the boycott?

It's time Peloton quits Facebook #StopHateForProfit

180+ Companies are boycotting Facebook; Peloton isn't.

In the past week major brands - Verizon, Adidas, Unilever, Honda, and Hershey’s - to name a few - joined a global boycott of advertising on Facebook. They join a list of over 180 companies agreeing to "Hit Pause on Hate," (some are listed here) by not advertising on Facebook in the month of July. The boycott has been organized by the Anti-Defamation League, Color of Change, the Free Press, Common Sense, the NAACP, and Sleeping Giants - to name a few.
The goal is to send Facebook a powerful message: Your profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism, and violence. Facebook took $70 billion in ad dollars; but did you realize it's the ONLY social media platform Peloton officially recognizes? Peloton spent 76% of their marketing budget there from 11/16/2018 - 12/15/19! Peloton has heavily advertised on FB - and promoted the platform - for years. Marketing efforts have long been led by Carolyn Tisch Blodgett and “community” efforts led and overseen by Jayvee Nava. While many of you were pointing out the longstanding toxic environment of their Facebook page, Peloton still left it largely unmoderated. Even going so far as patting themselves on the back with a “200k strong” badge, and bragging about it multiple times on their public blog. They push users to Facebook via links on every page of their website; its mentioned 92 times on the company blog; in every email from John Foley; and on the bike, Tread, and apps pop-ups encourage users to sign up for Facebook accounts and link their Peloton login. Peloton doesn't just advertise on FB, they actively encourage users participate there.
Peloton spent $324 million on marketing - 35% of sales - in the 12 months ended June 2019. With 76% dedicated to Facebook, that's $246.24 million.
Let’s put that $246.24 million into perspective. Money spent on a platform promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence. What would that money buy? It's 6,313,846 monthly subscriptions, or 109,684 bikes, or 57,332 Treads, or 5 brand new studios, or 4.5x their entire annual R&D budget, or 15x their music costs. Strikingly, just one-month ago - weeks after protests began - Peloton pledged $500k to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, even while continuing their Facebook presence.
Over the years that Peloton has been relying on Facebook as its sole community platform and major advertising partner, Facebook has used Peloton's money by:

What could Peloton have accomplished with that same $246.24 million?

Facebook could protect and support Black users. They could call out Holocaust denial as hate. They could help get out the vote. But they are actively choosing not to do so. 99% of Facebook’s $70 billion is made through advertising. Meanwhile, Peloton has been dedicating 76% of its marketing spend on Facebook. Here's some examples. They're in the top-five spenders of direct-to-consumer brands. Peloton could send a very direct message here, but their silence is deafening. Not only are they NOT taking a stand, they continue to send messages to all subscribers asking them to become users at Facebook, further increasing Facebook ad revenue.

It's time we asked Peloton to stop standing with Facebook; stop advertising there; stop running their only "official" page on a platform promoting hate and violence. It's time Peloton put its corporate money - our subscription dollars - toward a platform that does not promote hate speech, racism, bigotry, antisemitism, and violence.

For anyone who wasn't aware, /PelotonCycle was started-by and is run by-and-for Peloton members. We are not affiliated with Peloton Interactive. We started in 2015 with the goal of elevating the Peloton conversation. We seek to exchange info, ideas, intel about Peloton; selflessly helping each other become better athletes and people. Over the years we've seen members do some amazing things, including create the BlueHeart app, and start a monthly cycling challenge that became what we now know as Monthly Challenges. A bot was created here from scratch which tags your Leaderboard name - and keeps your achievements updated 4x/day. We celebrate Milestones every Monday; including those streaks and achievements that Peloton doesn't recognize. On most days, I see threads full of people selflessly helping each other out of the goodness of their hearts. In my view, that's the very spirit of sport.
What you, yes you - the person reading this - and the others around you have built, over years, has helped countless people. We don't publicly post our traffic, because we're really more focused on helping each other and don’t feel the need to emphasize subscribers as the sole marker of a successful community. But over 900,000 people visit here in a given month. Over 4 million unique pageviews. In May 2020 alone you posted 1,096 threads with a combined 24,983 comments. The vast majority were detailed, helpful, informative, interesting, value-added info you generously shared with your fellow members out of the goodness of your heart.
As always, keeping our rules enforced fairly and evenhandedly, and generally running this massive place, would be an impossible endeavour if not for FrauKoko and Kraphtyone. We owe a big thanks to NCBarkingDogs who spends countless hours keeping the bot's gears greased.

What Reddit is doing

You may have seen the news Reddit's sitewide owners have banned a number of communities, added a Black board member, and updated their content policy. If you don't know reddit's sitewide rules, they're worth checking out here.
Here in /PelotonCycle we have always maintained a stricter set of rules, including "be kind" (R2), "criticism is welcomed, but don't use it as an excuse to push an agenda" (R6), and a broad view (R7) that "personal attacks, slurs, or comments that insult or demean a specific user or group of users" is inappropriate, considered spam, the content will be removed and you may be banned without warning. We have for a while now been banning links to Facebook or removing content that promotes FOMO when discussing Peloton on FB. More on that policy here.

Wrap Up: What can I do?

Someone recently asked me, "what can I do to help?" and my answer is: a) use the vote buttons, and b) click "report" on anything you feel is rule-breaking.
We're community-run. Meaning, your votes move content up/down the page. If it shouldn't be seen, downvote it. If more people should see it, upvote it. If it's rule-breaking -- that goes for any post or any comment, click the "report" button. That immediately sends a 100% anonymous alert to a shared moderator inbox and allows us to act on inappropriate content quickly. If you have an issue with a specific mod, please let me know. If you have an issue with me (and don't want to PM me), please let another mod know. None of us make money off this place; none of us have ever made a single penny here. We endeavour to fairly and evenhandedly enforce our rules. We endeavour to promote a place that's open, transparent, informative, fun, helpful. A place you can make friends, laugh, relax, share stories and info. A place you can interact while being as anonymous as you like (a reddit account doesn't require your real name or even an email, for example); we value user privacy here. We value honesty, integrity, fairness, generosity, fresh ideas, open debate. I'm really proud of what you all have built here. We seek to be better -- better athletes, better people.
Beyond improving this specific Peloton community for all humans, it is time we asked the same of Peloton, too. It's long, long overdue for Peloton to step away from Facebook, build worthwhile community features into their own app/website/platform. To be clear, we are not asking Peloton to take over this page. This is not a self-serving call to action. It is asking Peloton to stop promoting hate by choosing to use Facebook as its social platform; by choosing to spend an overwhelming portion of its astronomical budget on Facebook advertising; asking Peloton to stop giving lip service to community, and start investing real $’s and resources into building the same “community” features that FitBit, Garmin, Suunto, and other platforms have created. Into their own ecosystem. Their own website, apps, hardware.

New and Improved Rules! Updates and Clarifications, for Your Viewing Pleasure

Hi all!
Your moderator team has been hard at work behind the scenes preparing updated and clarified rules for use on the sub. Our goal with this update is to be as clear as possible for users as well as for ourselves in our moderation activities. This update is necessary due to our continued growth as well as gaps in the rules that we've noticed over the past several months.

Opinion: Removing the Power Adaptor and EarPods From iPhone Packaging Would Be a Responsible Move - a Designer’s Perspective.

Summary

Apple wants a circular economy for its products, but packaging and accessories are not often reused and recycled like devices. Removing the power adaptor and EarPods could reduce up to 13,454,000 kgs of e-waste while avoiding the manufacture of 160 million sets of non-recyclable plastic and reducing the carbon footprint of delivering every new iPhone.
[Note: rather long read]

Introduction.

In 2017, Apple announced a new initiative to create a "closed loop supply chain”, where products are built using only renewable resources or recycled material. A goal later associated with a circular economy in their environment webpage.
Circular economy describes a product lifecycle model that attempts to mimic nature. Its three most fundamental principles, as proposed by the EllenMcArthur foundation, are to design out waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use, and regenerate natural systems. The idea is that all manufactured goods should be reused and recycled to the greatest possible extent.
The ultimate goal is to achieve a future where every Apple product would be made from 100% recycled material, where every part of every product—including the product itself, its packaging, products used in manufacturing, as well as accessories—would be reused or recycled. This cycle model is as opposed to the status quo—a linear model—where products, packaging and accessories are made, used, then discarded. At the time, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, admitted that they did not yet know how to achieve this, nonetheless, pledged to make an effort to work towards such a system.

Existing Progress.

In the years before, and after, Apple has made various steps to improve the recycling and reuse of both their materials and devices. From disassembly robots like Liam and Daisy, to encouraging returns through the iPhone upgrade program and trade-ins, Apple showed progress towards this goal with the promotion of recycling-enabling subscription-like systems also used by other circular economy companies. By 2018, Apple announced that they had started using 100% recycled Aluminium in some of their products. By 2019, 100% recycled tin for solder in the main logic boards of 11 products. They also claimed to have refurbished more than 7.8 million devices and recycled more than 48,000 metric tons of e-waste in the same year.
However, when considering packaging, there are some added challenges.
Unlike the devices they protect, packaging is not often reused, and the materials they use are often not recycled effectively. The rigid structure needed to make the smooth, compact, papers and card used for Apple’s premium packaging necessitate the use of a large percentage, or a sole blend, of virgin paper—“new” paper. This is as recycled paper often loses structure, strength and density; why it’s most often used in soft papers like office paper, toilet paper and receipts or mixed with virgin paper for lower grade secondary packaging like cereal boxes.
While trade-ins and the iPhone Upgrade program require you to return the iPhone, boxes and accessories are not typically returned even though you receive new sets. This prevents them from being recycled effectively. General recyclers cannot recover materials as effectively because they cannot optimise their processes for a specific product or material like a manufacturer can.

iPhone Packaging, Today.

This brings us to iPhone packaging. Observing the packaging I have from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone XS Max, while the width and heights of the boxes have changed dramatically with iPhone dimensions, the depth, or thickness, hasn’t. Apart from the depth of the boxes, there’s one other thing that hasn’t changed significantly. Weight.
With all usable contents removed, leaving only the box and paperwork, the iPhone 4S box weighs approximately 194 grammes. The iPhone 5 box: 203g. iPhone 6 box: 213g. iPhone 7 box (sans paperwork): 192g. iPhone 8 Plus box: 253g. iPhone XS Max box: 240g.
By comparison, the iPhone 5—the lightest in the list—weighs 112 grammes. The iPhone XS Max—the heaviest—weighs 208 grammes. The boxes iPhones ship in, has, for almost a decade, weighed at least as much as the device itself, to almost double what the device it’s protecting weighs. Even the accessories with all their packaging—XS Max ones, none of which were counted in the box weights—only weigh about 82 grammes total.
Inside, there’s a notable transition away from plastics and a shift away from adhesives. Apple’s 2019 environmental responsibility report claims that they have reduced plastic use in their packaging by 48% in three years. However, when looking at the insides of the boxes I have, it’s notable that the deepest holes are for the charging adaptor (Type G plugs). At 40mm in a 60mm box, the adaptor is easily the thickest item in the packaging. The charging cables? They’re only 10mm tall in the wrapped configuration Apple ships them in.

What If?

So, what can be gained from removing the adaptor and earphones from the box? For starters, it reduces the weight of the accessories by over 70%, from 82 to 20 grammes—the weight of the remaining charging cables. Next, it eliminates the need for potentially 30 mm of depth in the iPhone boxes, allowing them to be (almost exactly) half the depth they have been for a decade—presumably also significantly decreasing its weight.
What does this mean? For one, it reduces the shipping emissions of each iPhone, when considering the packaging, due to weight. Taking the estimated number of iPhones shipped in 2018 (217 million), removing the 62 grammes of accessories alone would contribute to the potential reduction of 13,454,000 kgs of e-waste and associated shipping emissions yearly. Moreover, it allows for twice as many iPhones to be shipped in the same volume when compared to before. Seeing that shipping by volume also matters due to the inherent fuel consumption of the transports used, this further helps reduce the environmental impact of the transportation stage in the product lifecycle.
In fact, this has been done before. Fairphone 3 by Fairphone ships with only the phone, a screwdriver, bumper and documentation. They pride themselves on human rights and environmental consciousness, providing their USB cable, earphone and charger separately specifically to reduce environmental impact. Nokia tried something similar in 2009 with the N79 Eco. The effects? A smaller and lighter package when compared to the version that shipped with a charger.
Even today, a large number of popular personal electronic devices are shipped without a power adaptor. Most commonly battery-powered audio equipment like Bluetooth headphones and speakers. Flagship premium Bluetooth headphones like the Sony WH-1000XM3, Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700, Beats Studio3 Wireless and the B&O H9 3rd Gen all ship without a USB adaptor. Even B&O’s high-end Beolit 17 wireless speaker does not include a power adaptor in the box.
But what about convenience? Many of you have wondered what would happen when you need to charge your new iPhone. iPhone has used USB cables since the very beginning, and lightning since 2012. In the past 8 years, if you’ve bought an iPhone, you already have a USB power adaptor and a lightning cable. If you’ve been using Android devices, you’ll also have either a USB-A or USB-C power adaptor, if not both. If Apple includes just the lightning cable, you’d likely be able to cover both camps.
In 2020, it is estimated that there are 3.5 billion smartphone users. This is expected to grow by 300 million in 2021. Approximately 1.5 billion smartphones were sold each year between 2016-2019. Assuming a steady rate, 20% of smartphones sold next year will go into the hands of first-time users.
Reversing that statistic, 80% of you possibly already have a compatible adaptor. If evenly distributing the cumulative smartphone sales of the past 6 years, assuming they all included USB adapters, you would have enough adapters for every person on the planet with leftovers. With the maturity of the market, even cars, planes, hotels and new houses have started integrating USB power plugs to respond to our need to keep our electronic devices powered. Besides, this doesn’t take into account the fact that a portion of these new owners will likely be youth. They likely have adults in the family with existing, possibly spare, USB adaptors, especially when you consider that iPhone falls in the premium category and has users that are generally more affluent or enjoy relatively high purchasing power (globally).
And the cherry on top? Transportation is only 5% of Apple’s carbon footprint, 74%, is in manufacturing. Removing the power adaptor has the potential to reduce 80% of Apple’s manufacturing needs for the 200+ million iPhone power adaptors it currently includes in the box. I think that would likely be a non-negligible figure. Also, the casing used for Power Adaptors? It’s a thermoset plastic due to safety reasons. That means it can’t be easily melted, recycled and remoulded. So every extra adaptor Apple manufactures, is one more piece of plastic that will likely not be recycled.

Summary

By not including accessories that many of us already have, Apple stands to reduce e-waste, manufacturing waste, manufacturing emissions as well as iPhone shipping emissions, all playing into the bigger picture of Apple achieving their goal of a zero-waste circular economy.

Wells Fargo Online Fraud - Someone Fraudulently Took $3000. What can I do?

Hello!
I wanted to reach out to the community here to see if there was any advice you all could give me. Here's my current situation.
On 6/16, I noticed a fraudulent Online Bill Pay transaction (not sure if this is ACH but I would assume it is) on my account in the amount of $3000. It was sent to a Bank of America credit card account (I can see the last few digits of the account on the transaction). I have never been nor am I currently affiliated with any Bank of America product. I immediately called Wells Fargo to report the fraudulent transaction. They closed both my online account and my checking account and reopened new ones for me. I received a case number and was told that it will take 10-15 business days to resolve my case. I thought they might just be able to reverse or cancel the payment since I caught it when it was still pending.
On 6/27, I received a letter from Wells Fargo requesting that I fill out an Affidavit of Online Fraud. I promptly filled it out and faxed it over to them that day.
On 6/30, I called Wells Fargo to verify that they had received the affidavit. They did.
On 7/2, I called Wells Fargo to check the status of my claim. The agent I spoke with mentioned that the case was resolved, but that there was no verdict noted in the case. It pretty much didn't say if they were going to credit my account or if they are denying my claim. Because of the lack of judgment, the agent opened up another case for me and provided me a new case number.
Today, 7/3, I received a letter from Wells Fargo confirming that they are denying my claim. "Our research of this Bill Payment shows that it was requested through a secure online banking session using your username and password. After reviewing all the information available to us regarding this transaction you are disputing we have determined that this transaction was made by you, or someone who had your authorization." I read this and immediately thought "so if someone got a hold of my ATM PIN and emptied my accounts, that wouldn't be fraud either since the PIN is supposed to be secure and since someone else had my PIN, I must've told them?"
Since receiving notice that Wells Fargo denied my claim, I've submitted a complaint to the CFPB and also filed a police report. I've also requested copies of the documents WF used to come to this conclusion. Is there anything else I can do to get my money back? I'm not rich by any means and $3000 is a ton of money.
EDIT: Just realized I can look at Wells Fargo's Bill Pay history and oddly enough, the "NAME ON BILL" portion of the Bill Pay lists myself. Can guarantee through Credit Karma that no Bank of America credit card has ever been opened in my name. Is this a loophole for Wells Fargo Bill Pay where you can list the account owner and payment will go through, even if the "NAME ON BILL" isn't actually the account owner of the person receiving payment?

I would like to preface this by saying that while I'm not an affiliate, I have been die hard fan of Notoriously Morbid, or NM (for brevity, here-on-out) for roughly 3 years. I love their owner, I love their crew, I love their crypt, I love the Crypties. I love, buy, subscribe to just about everything NM. I even learned how to legitimately press their eyeshadow (it's not actually dousing it in alcohol, believe it or not) to such an extent, I actually found former Mayb/L'Or cosmetic chemists, and learned from them how it was done. I had a closet filled with an industrial press, mixing ingredients/tools, with hundreds of pots-
So, naturally, when they announced their Anniversary Sale by giving us a teaser of the palette, I was S T O K E D.

It was a no brainer; I was getting this palette.
And 4 days before the release, the announcement is made of the price, itself, which struck me as unusual, so I read it more thoroughly-
"Hi everyone! We are working on our price list and our items releasing on Saturday. I wanted to give you a heads up on the Blessed Are We, The Misfits palette. A mostly multichrome palette that was requested by the crypt.
We are a small indie and I know this price for this palette comes out of left field, especially given how small our brand is.
The retail cost of this palette is $174. With 8 multichromes, 2 matte neons, 1 matte shadow, 1 duochrome shadow in a holographic palette. We have approximately 75 made.
The cost of this palette is $140. We gulped at that price. We know its expensive. We will be lucky to get our costs of goods back out but I wanted to give you something special for this anniversary.

Hell yeah I gulped, too.
Now, I'm not a brand owner. I don't have a crew to support.
I also do not know how many man-hours was spent creating this palette. I don't know how many trials and tribulations was experienced in it's making. And honestly, it's not my business.
But I AM somebody with a wholesaler license (in Texas, I cannot speak for their base, WV). I'm also extremely familiar with bulk purchasing pigments/palettes, especially TKB/Bulk Apothecary/ect.
If I'm frank, I'm really having a hard time reconciling that price point. But it's also not my place to speculate, because an artist determines the worth of their work, not me. But the borderline FOMO explanation rubbed me wrong, ESPECIALLY when in the midst of Covid-19/Quarantine, people were laid off, furloughed, RIF, or became unemployed. Then, they waited till 4 days before launch to tell people the price. This Also rubbed me wrong. And while I'm, again, just speculating, I feel this could be an intentional sale tactic, because frankly, if I had a month to think on it, I wouldn't Need that, either. But giving people that could now be living paycheck to paycheck 4 days to scramble $140 for a palette, not including the other releases is, simply put- Bullshit.
Additional Bullshit: No discount codes are applicable. So the $10 off Any NM purchase coupon I got with my $75 Wolf Easter Basket suddenly excludes new releases I guess?
IMAM, I'm all about supporting my brands, but when you have a 12 pan palette, going upwards into Pat McGrath/Natasha Denona territory, where do we draw the line?

1. QUESTION: How do I get in touch with customer service phone support?
ANSWER: The highest level of official customer service is known as "tier 2" and can be reached by calling 1-800-659-2955 and asking for Tier 2. (NOTE: As of 5/29 the previous direct number is currently out of service) They are unfortunately, a very limited means of support. They are able to check your application status and see the current "stage" and leave notes in your file, but unable to directly make any changes or escalate anything in a meaningful way.
Most are very nice and well meaning people but are usually poorly informed and often provided contradictory information between calls. The important thing to understand is that notes left by T2 do not actually notify a loan officer or anyone, they are simply waiting to be read if someone happens to open your file and takes the time to review the case notes. So if a T2 says they requested a change do not assume it was or will be made.


2. QUESTION: What are my chances of being approved for this loan? Can I know in advance?
ANSWER: The loan is relatively easy to get approval for by loan standards. The exact underwriting criteria the SBA is using was leaked by some helpful people (hat tip to u/Sbaleaky) and thus you can have a good understanding what your chances are.
Underwriters look for the following:
-Minimum Credit Score of 570. They will pull from experian. Close to Vantage 3 model found on nav DOT com or TransUnion numbers on credit karma. They do NOT use FICO. Credit score is largest factor for approval for this loan and no exceptions are made for under 570.
-If economic injury was sustained based on formula described in QUESTION 4. If this is a negative number you will be auto declined. (SEE QUESTION 5) The SBA does not consider potential revenue lost or general expenses in the loan amount.
-Tax liens or tax issues are NOT a disqualifying factor or taken into consideration for COVID19 disaster.
-Business start date must be prior to 1/31/20
-open bankruptcies = Declined. Closed OK.
-Arrest for felony < 5 years = Declined
-Arrest for misdemeanor < 5 years = Declined
-Sole proprietors with delinquent child support > 60 days = Declined
-Any business principals with 50% or more ownership with delinquent child support > 60 days = Declined
-Your business must pass verification in some way that it is a valid operation. If they can find it on google it will suffice. Otherwise you may have to provide documents to prove it's a legit business.
-Your business type must not be on the list for ineligible business activity. See list on FAQ.
-All owners on application must be either US citizens or Permanent Residents. E-2 Investor visa is NOT eligible and any attempts to appeal or add a co-borrower who is a citizen or LPR will be unsuccessful. Corporations, Partnerships, and Limited Liability Entities (LLE): Alien-owned corporations, partnerships, and LLEs properly registered and licensed in the state where the disaster occurred are eligible. If any member, partner, or shareholder, owning 20 percent or more of the applicant business is in the USA they must be a qualified alien. If the alien resides outside the USA an exception may be made.


3. QUESTION: I received a decline letter for “Business activity not eligible”. What can I do?
ANSWER: EIDL has a list of restricted business categories, if your type is NOT on this list and you still received this letter you may have been improperly classified.

The following applicants are not eligible for EIDL assistance.



4. QUESTION: How is the loan amount calculated? How can I request a specific amount?
ANSWER: There is no way to request a specific amount, the eligible amount is calculated automatically by formula based on your inputs. There are three known formulas:
  1. Standard Small Business: Revenue minus COGS divided by 2 minus advance, subject to maximum of 150K
  2. Not for Profit: 6 months operating expenses year prior to 1/31/20
  3. Business that collects rental property income, your offer is calculated by lost rents due to the disaster, not the standard formula. If your offer is lower than expected you may have been wrongly classified into this formula.

5. QUESTION: What is the maximum loan amount?
ANSWER: As of last update it is currently 150K cap. This will not change anytime soon and there will be no way to request more at present. The only way to avoid the cap is if your loan was already being obligated prior to the change by the SBA from 500K. If I hear anything new on this it will be updated here.

6. QUESTION: When will I get my portal invite?
ANSWER: Portal invites are a fully automated process and not strictly sequential but follow general group patterns. If you see someone that has a higher number than you get a portal invite it does NOT mean you were "passed over".

7. QUESTION: I finally got a portal invite and accepted and submitted an amount. My application says it is "processing", now what?
ANSWER: This is when the actual loan process starts and underwriting begins. Your application will be assigned a loan officer for review using the criteria listed in question 2. The exact process is as follows (hat tip u/sbaleaky and u/LOL_Face_69) with the actual stages from start to finish. Keep in mind that once you accept in the portal a number of things are going on behind the scenes, which is why "processing" can take a great deal of time. Once you see a loan amount in your portal, this is NOT an approved offer. It is simply a potential amount you are eligible for based on the stated formula if you pass underwriting.

[The following takes place behind the scenes and will not reflect in your portal, but will still say "processing"]
Note: The exception to this process is that some applications which are considered easy (based on unknown factors) to approve are subject to full automation and may go straight to approval bypassing the above steps. This only happens in rare cases.
You may also see a status that says, "On-Hold" Amount $0: This status typically is when your loan was temporarily declined and is still in the reconsideration department pending possible reconsideration approval.


8. QUESTION: I now understand that processing really means "underwriting", but how long will it actually take? What is the normal amount of time?
ANSWER: The amount of time it is normal for your portal to say "processing" is highly variable as a hundred different factors are involved behind the scenes. As of 6/10 we are seeing extended delays in processing time and obligating stage specifically. The average we are seeing is around 14-16 days total in processing. If your application has been in underwriting for greater than 14 days it may merit investigate, but not necessarily indicate a problem with your chances of approval. Do NOT panic if it seems "stuck" with no communication from anyone. This is normal.


9. QUESTION: Does contacting my congressmen or senator actually work?
ANSWER: Yes, the SBA treats congressional inquiry very carefully and will flag and sometimes white glove your application. Often they will assign a special case worker during the process. The important thing is when your local congressional office reaches out they do NOT contact the local district SBA but this email: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). This email is NOT for use by applicants but only official government purposes.


10. QUESTION: Help! I accidentally entered the wrong revenue or COGS on my application and my offer amount was lower than I expected, is it possible to change this?
ANSWER: Yes, but two factors are important:
  1. You should NOT have already accepted an amount and submitted for processing in the portal. *If you already did see note below.
  2. You have documentation to backup the changes such as Federal Tax Returns 2018 or 2019 or P&L Statements. Tax returns are strongly preferred if available.
****The important thing here is DO NOT accept the offer in the portal if you need to revise your numbers.****
*IF YOU HAVE ALREADY ACCEPTED THE OFFER: Call tier 2 support as soon as you possibly can and ask them to make the following note in your file: Loan Officer, DO NOT approve this file without calling me, the applicant, because my (revenue or COGS) figures are wrong. I have supporting docs to make the changes. Please contact me ASAP.

11. QUESTION: I need to change my Rev or COGS and I already accepted an amount in the portal, Tier 2 told me to do it! Is it too late?
Answer: Unfortunately tier 2 is currently giving absolutely terrible advice in this situation. They are telling people to accept the offer in the portal to speak with a loan officer to make the revision. The problem is that once you accept you set the process in motion and then it gets obligated by treasury it is impossible to adjust. The proper time is prior to accepting. Often times loan officers never are needed, never reach out or even read these notes. I see it every day and people are stuck its the "kiss of death" advice. If you already accepted you may have time but would need to work quickly from date of submit.
UPDATE: As of 6/15 there is now a way to fix this. See question 13.

12. QUESTION: Who are you, cue378? Can you help me?
ANSWER: I am a small business owner who is a full time volunteer offering to assist in the EIDL process. I have experience assisting hundreds of other business owners in applying for and getting approved. I am sharing the information, strategies, and general knowledge I have gained over the course of 2 months. I do not work at the SBA nor do I have any affiliation with the SBA.

13. QUESTION: My loan was obligated, already funded, or I already accepted the amount in the portal. I made a mistake with my COGS or revenue and I am not happy with the amount. Can I change it?
ANSWER: As of 6/12 loan modifications are now being allowed. You can contact [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) and request a "Loan Modification increase". It is a 3-4 week process that requires documentation. A second loan will be given for the difference from the first one. It will be processed as a 20xx series loan in the old system/portal. For more details email me. Note if you have not yet accepted the offer the normal process is much faster.


14. QUESTION: How do I show support for the volunteers and moderators for EIDL
ANSWER: For supporting Cue378, there is a tip jar listed above. If you wish to show support to our community moderators, a separate tip jar can be found HERE. Proceeds for this jar will be split between u/innocul8 and u/Scorpio14534. Donations in this jar do NOT go to Cue. Any amount is very appreciated. 15. QUESTION: I received my portal link, but when I go to create an account it just takes me to the login page. What can be done?
ANSWER: Follow these steps:
  1. Open the email to create your portal account. Right click on the green button that says, "create your account". Click "copy link address" or "copy hyperlink" depending on your browser.
  2. Use a VPN service, such as NordVPN or ProtonVPN (free), to connect to a VPN server in different state than yours, preferably on the opposite coast you are located.
  3. Open an incognito browser window, or private browser session if on firefox.
  4. Right click on the URL/web address field and paste the link you copied. Hit enter.
  5. You should then successfully be able to create a login, enter the portal, and accept your offer.
Alternately if you don't have a VPN or want to use one you can use a mobile phone to login incognito, with WiFi off on a cellular network, to create the account.

16. QUESTION: I was declined for "unsatisfactory credit". What are my options?
ANSWER: You have a few options.
  1. You can bring your vantage 3 score over 570 by paying down cards, when you are ready you can request the SBA re-pull your report and reactivate your account via [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
  2. You can request to add a co-borrower that has a higher score than 570 with no open bankruptcy and run their credit to reactivate your application.
You can expedite your request for a co-borrower by having this ready to go. You can also do this preemptively if you expect to be declined for credit. The co-borrower does NOT have to be involved with the business and can be anyone. The form is available here:

17. QUESTION: What documents are required? Will a loan officer contact me?
ANSWER: In most cases no documentation is required and everything is self certified. In some cases a LO will need to contact you to clarify some things about your business or request specific documents. In most cases you will never be contacted by or communicate with a loan officer.


18. QUESTION: What is the status of the Advance/Grant program? Can I still get a grant?
ANSWER: As most of you already know, the EIDL Advance/Grant program has ended and the full 20 billion in funding for the advance has been exhausted. The option has been removed from new applications. Getting funding for the advance as a new applicant at this time will not be possible.

19. QUESTION: What are the eligible uses of EIDL funds?
ANSWER: These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster’s impact. What are all the possible uses of the funds? The wording ‘obligations that are unable to be met due to lack of revenue’ seems to be a catch all, but how much so? The EIDL working capital loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills that could have been paid had the disaster not occurred. The loans are not intended to replace lost sales or profits or for expansion.

20. QUESTION: I received a denial letter for the reason "ECONOMIC INJURY NOT SUSTAINED". What does this mean and what can I do?
ANSWER: This occurs when the numbers entered on your application for COGS are greater than your revenue. The SBA calculates economic injury based on the formula in question number 4. You can also be denied for this reason if the resulting number is less than your advance amount. Please note that the SBA is only taking into account revenue earned prior to the disaster date of 1/31/20 to calculate your economic injury. If your only revenue was earned after that date as a newer business you may not qualify.
If the numbers on your application were correct, you would not be eligible for an EIDL. If you made an error you can request an amendment and request reactivation of your application. I can assist with this process. You need at minimum Profit and Loss statements for the period 12 months prior to the disaster starting 1/31/20. I will respond with instructions on how to file this amendment.

21. QUESTION: What is CAWEB and how can it help me track my loan disbursement and other status?
ANSWER: You can use the Capital Access Finance System to track your EIDL after your documents have been signed and submitted through funding. It allows you to see disbursement status and other details related to your loan.

Visit caweb.sba.gov or click the link at the top of EIDL
Setting up an account:
You need a SBA Loan # to set up an account - for EIDL it appears on the first page of your documents, in the upper left hand area, and says "SBA Loan # XXXXXXXXXX.”
SBA loan #'s are 10 digits. Your Application # will NOT work for account set-up.
If you have a PPP Loan, you can use your SBA # for this loan to set up an account. Sometimes this # is easy to figure out, sometimes not. That has to do with an intermediary (like your bank) being involved, but if you can track down an actual SBA Loan #, you can go ahead and get registered without your EIDL loan number.
  1. On the home page click on "Not Enrolled?" in the top left. This takes you to a screen to enter info. You may come to hate this screen, this process is very finicky.
  2. Look at the rules for creating a User ID and Password by clicking on "Rules..." next to the fields.
  3. Write your exact ID & password down somewhere - if you ever get locked out and call the SBA for help, they are going to tell you that Borrowers are not supposed to be able to access CAFS CAWeb. Apparently we still can, so don't make this a big deal or maybe that will change!
  4. For user type - select "borrower" from the drop down menu.
  5. Fill in the highlighted fields with your info. Click on the "ZIP LOOKUP" button after you enter your zip code. This auto populates some other boxes, and registration won't work if you don't do this.
  6. For the country code in the phone number section enter "1" for the United States.
  7. Financial commitment ID is your Loan # - 10 digits.
  8. If you don't have a landline, it has been reported that just entering your mobile number in both fields works. You will have to select 3 of their security questions, enter the Captcha image info, then hit "submit" at the bottom.
If it didn't like the info you have entered, it will give you an error message for what part it didn't like, and you will have to try again, which requires re-entering quite a bit of the information. It's a pain.
But if it takes it, you're in! There may be a verification step now as well.
Finding your loan on CAWeb
  1. On the caweb homepage, login (if you aren't already), it will be personalized and show your name. You have to scroll down and check the "Agree to Terms" box when you are logging in.
  2. Click on "Borrower" in the top left, then click on "Borrower Search". This should take you to your "Loan List" showing the loan #, borrower name, loan type, amount, and loan status.
  3. PPP loans typically appear as "Active Un-Disbursed" - if your PPP is already funded don't worry about that. Your EIDL will show up as "Disbursed Current" if funds are on their way. It may say something else if you look immediately after you send back you Docs, but it should change pretty quickly. Logging out and back in again will sometimes refresh the status. Loan status will say "Active Un-Disbursed" until Treasury send the funds to your bank, then it changes to "Disbursed Current".


22. QUESTION: I received my portal invite link, however when I go to create an account I just get the message: "The user account has not been confirmed yet. Please confirm using the link in the e-mail". What can I do?
ANSWER: This is a known bug/error normally relating to either getting the invite ahead of schedule or other missing information in your file that would prevent the account creation from moving forward. Tier 2 cannot solve this and it need a special approach to resolve. Please email me with the subject line: "USER ACCOUNT HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED". Include your reddit username in the email somewhere. Critique my plan for the site I bought

DR: 14, organic keywords 12k, monthly traffic 9k, Backlinks 127, average monthly income $2,500. There's currently 60 articles on the site. Age of the domain is 3 years.
The reason I bought the site was the history of income, niche not relying on Amazon and an easy transition to FBA, eventually. It does make some money through Amazon affiliate but the majority comes from other affiliates.
Content: All the current articles on the site are from the previous owner, as they were an expert in the field.
My plan for keywords and post ideas is following the ahrefs YouTube channel for keywords. I already hired three writers and I plan on adding three posts a week. I'm using Trello to stay organized. I don't know how long I'll do this for though or when I should scale it back to one post a week?
I plan on adding some free downloadables to build up the email list more. Email list currently has 3,000 subscribers that the seller was emailing twice a week.
SEO Audit: I did a quick SEO audit from SEO leverage. They found some low hanging fruit I had already thought about but they said I needed to get the domain rating up to 35 for the niche. I might do a full audit from them but I think it was around $1,500.
I'm going to use SEO surfer or Onpage SEO to look through the current articles. I haven't decided which tool to use though.
Backlinks: I have no clue about this, so I'm going to work on figuring this out. The way I made my other site from scratch I haven't built any backlinks. I took the income school course before I started building the site and they basically say don't ever worry about backlinks. This site I built from scratch is still new and I'm only making around $100 a month.
A question I have is the majority of articles are "buyer intent". Their best this or that or top 10 sort of post.
What's the balance of informational articles first by intent articles I should have? Also, what keyword difficulty should I target at first?

Upstairs Lounge Fire-arson attack in New Orleans on June 24, 1973-"The 1973 arson attack at the Upstairs Lounge killed 32 people and was the largest massacre of LGBTQ individuals in the United States prior to the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016. "

Until the Pulse nightclub massacre in 2016, the arson attack which killed 32 people in New Orleans was the deadliest attack at a gay establishment in U.S. history; however, the event “is still relatively unknown, even within the LGBTQ community.” The UpStairs Lounge, a second-floor bar in New Orleans’ French Quarter near the corner of Chartres and Iberville Street, featured a pianist and performances which "were enjoyed by a diverse crowd" as it was one of "few fringe establishments....brazen enough to encourage interracial mingling." The lounge was also “a place of worship” and held services by the Metropolitan Community Church which was the first church in “the U.S. to cater to LGBTQ congregations.”
Earlier that day, Reverend Bill Larson, led a “spiritual gathering” at the lounge. As the weekly “Sunday beer bust” and celebration over the 4th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising that evening was drawing to a close, survivors later reported smelling gasoline but “they didn’t think much of it at the time.” Just before 8 p.m., the doorbell rang which was a sign a taxi had arrived on the street below. The bell kept ringing but no one reported calling a taxi. When the door was opened, a “fireball burst into the room and the inferno quickly spread” as someone had "doused the wooden staircase with lighter fluid and then threw a lighted torch into the stairwell." Jimmy Massacci, owner of the building, and his father, also a previous owner, both witnessed the fire. Jimmy believes "the arsonist was a regular at the bar, due to his familiarity with the door buzzer system used by the patrons." He stated that since the door on Iberville Street “was kept locked, whoever did it had to be a regular and had to know the routine.” A survivor, Ronnie Rosenthal, 21 years old at the time, noted that Buddy Rasmussen, a bartender, led him and about 15 others to safety through a back door that led to the roof, then down to the street; to this day, Buddy refuses to talk to reporters and scholars about the events that day.
It is unclear how but "the door through which the group escaped became locked" and “trapped the rest of the patrons” with a few "managing to squeeze through the burglar bars that blocked the windows." The building had not "been outfitted with proper fire safety measures" as the single emergency exit was not marked and bars covered the windows.Reverend Larson became stuck on the second-floor window and burned to death; a photograph of his burned body was callously featured on the Times-Picayune’s front-page article about the fire. Later that night, Ronnie and his friends were taken to the city morgue to identify some of the bodies with some of those who were identified going “unclaimed by families who were too ashamed to collect the remains of their gay sons and brothers”; Ronnie recalled, “they just let their kids go…it was the most horrific thing.“ Three victims were never identified and were laid to rest in paupers’ graves; churches also refused to hold funerals for the victims along with funeral homes which refused to bury the bodies.
One exception was the Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home which was the largest funeral home in New Orleans; the chief investigator for the coroner’s office asked the funeral home to handle burying the victims and the funeral home obliged. Patrick Schoen, who now manages the funeral home, was a seventh-grader at the time and he often took the bus from his family’s funeral home to the cemeteries to place flowers on the victims’ graves. According to Patrick, many of the men “could not initially be identified because they threw their wallets into the fire before they died in order to hide their identities.”
The “pervading homophobia at the time” became clear in “the aftermath of the fire.” In a TV news report the following day, survivors refused to show their faces on camera; some were fired when their employers found out they had been injured in the fire. One victim, who later died of his injuries, learned on his deathbed that had lost his teaching job. A local radio show joked about “victims’ ashes being kept in a fruit jar.” New Orleans previously had “declared days of mourning following similar tragedies, but City Hall did not acknowledge the fire.” St. George’s Episcopal Church was “inundated with complaints” after holding a small memorial service. On July 1, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church held a larger prayer service and memorial which was attended by almost 300 people; many journalists and photographers waited outside the church "to expose members of the closeted gay community in New Orleans." An attendee, Stewart Butler, remembered that "everyone was offered the option of exiting through a back door of the church in order to avoid being potential stigma and harassment from affiliation with the memorial." However, no one chose to do so; instead, everyone "decided to face the media and present a unified front to honor those who had died in the fire."
Further perpetuating the “pervading homophobia of the time”, WVUE Channel 8 reported about an anonymous phone call saying that “the bar was fire-bombed by a vigilante group that has declared war on homosexuals in New Orleans." The caller, a woman, said the group calls itself “Black Momma, White Momma.” The news anchor went on to say that the group was made up of “several women, as well as five men, who have been sexually attacked by homosexuals.” The newscaster concluded by stating that the caller “said the group is planning more attacks and has maps outlining their future targets.”
However, the most likely suspect in the arson was Roger “Dale” Nunez, who was thrown out of the bar earlier in the evening for “being belligerently drunk and harassing customers”; as he was being escorted out of the bar, he angrily threatened to “come back and burn you all out.” He was later seen purchasing lighter fluid at a nearby drugstore just before the fire. He was questioned by police but never charged. He had a history of mental health problems and Dale allegedly confessed to a friend that he started the blaze before killing himself in November 1974. Sam Gebbia, the New Orleans Police Department’s lead investigator, told a newspaper in 2013, “I’m sure in my heart of hearts this is the guy that set our fire”; however, he "just didn’t have enough evidence to arrest him." In 1980, the state fire marshal's office, closed the case citing a lack of leads.
The arson attack remains unsolved.
Jimmy Massacci, the owner of the building, now operates the Jimani Bar on the first floor of the building. The former site of the Upstairs Lounge is used as a storage space.

In 2003, after thirty years, a plaque dedicated to the victims was installed on the sidewalk in front of the door that led to the Upstairs Lounge. The plaque is "small and embedded in the sidewalk so not many people notice it."
Questions:
I kept finding conflicting information as to whether Roger Nunez was actually questioned by the police. One article noted that the police were not interested in questioning him; similarly, another article noted that police had a hard time locating him once he was discharged from a psychiatric hospital. It was hard to piece together what investigation, if any, was done.

Three unknown white males buried in New Orleans’ Potter’s Field remain unidentified. A 2018 news article noted that one can reasonably conclude that Larry Frost is one of the three unknown male victims based on interviews and a timeline of his whereabouts. Larry's family would like to see his name officially added to the list of other victims. The article surmised "had the family spoken up sooner, it’s quite possible that Larry’s name could have been included" in the 2003 memorial plaque. Larry's sister, Nancy, stated "that it never occurred to her that people outside the family would be interested in his death" as "they didn’t understand the magnitude of the fire, its place in history, or the passionate, vested interest of the LGBTQ community. She insisted that "their silence wasn’t out of a lack of caring or shame...simply put,they didn’t know that there was a reason to speak up."
In 2018, the city of New Orleans launched an effort to find the lost remains of Ferris LeBlanc, a World War II veteran, who died in the fire. Following his death, Ferris’s remains were identified by his ring and he was buried, along with three other unidentified victims of the fire, in the city’s potter’s field. Ferris’s family were never informed of his death; they only learned of his in 2015 after a curious family member typed his name into Google. Investigations by the family led to a private cemetery called Resthaven which was once contracted by the city to perform burials of New Orleans’ indigent and unclaimed. His remains were buried in an unmarked grave in the enclosed field behind the cemetery in Panel Q, Lot 32.
Both city and cemetery officials told the family that “all relevant records, including any applicable maps of the property, had been destroyed several years earlier by Hurricane Katrina.” Furthermore, “a long-running financial dispute between the city and cemetery had seemingly made any cooperation between them impossible.” Representative Clay Higgins, who sits on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, contacted the family directly and suggested “the key could lie in the only surviving video of the burial -just a few seconds of grainy news footage -which could be used to triangulate the site of the plot.” However, any disinterment faces a legal battle as a letter from the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office posed “ten questions that need to be considered and investigated as the city starts determining under what circumstances to grant disinterment authorization.” The inquiry has since “been quietly discontinued” due to failure to find records.

Survey Results Are In!

Hello comrades! Thanks to everyone who filled out the survey.
I'll break down the survey below for those who want a transcription of it or for those who want a more organized presentation instead of the raw data. Here is a link to the survey results. For comparison, here is the previous survey. Please discuss your thoughts on the survey in the comments, and also continue the conversation started in the old thread about what you want to see for the sub’s future
We had 600 responses to the survey, which given the size of the subscriber base is a statistically significant amount that we can confidently extrapolate from.
Question 1: Age demographics
We are trending younger than the previous survey, with zoomers making a major jump in demographics at the expense of 26-30 and 31-40 year olds. The early 20s seemed to hold relatively consistent. I am unsure if this means the old people are leaving or if more young people are joining. 25% of us are under 17, 29% are 18-21, 21% are 21-25, 14% are 26-30, and the rest are older.
Question 2: Gender Identity
Overall, we are very much dominated by men at 79.5% of the sub. There has been a slight decrease in male identification in favour of women and non-binary. But this is definitely a weakness of the sub. We need to work on ways to be more inclusive of non cis-male voices.
Question 3: How non-white are we
The answer is very mayonnaise at 76% non-PoC. We had an almost 5% drop from a year ago which is great but I think we can do much better.
Question 4: LGBTQ+
This one is much better. We seem to have a strong representation from LGBTQ+ folks which is consistent from last year, and it is good to see the number be pushed up by around 4 points from 32% to 36%.
Question 5: How non-cis are we
Considering around 3% of the population is trans according to GLAAD, we seem to have decent representation on the subreddit at 7.7%.
Question 6: Where do we live
This question is worth looking at on the google form. They all are, but this one particularly so what with all the different possible answers. Suffice it to say, we are very much situated in the imperial core. This is somewhat problematic but to be expected given the overall reddit userbase. This is something that we should definitely try to combat. Since last year it seems the US portion has decreased by around 5 points to favor eastern europe, canada, and some growth outside the imperial core.

Question 7: Living environment
Largely unchanged from last year, socialism is split roughly evenly between city living and suburbia, with a small but important section living in a rural area.

75% of the sub considers English to be their primary language, which is a slight drop from last year.

We are largely not a religious sub, and the demographics here have largely not changed in the last year.

Question 10: How long have you been a socialist
We've shifted down to subscribers having less overall experience with socialism, losing from all categories above 3 years and gaining on all the lower choices. This could be from an influx of new people from the election, and hopefully it does not mean we are losing more experienced folks in large numbers. Half of the sub has been a socialist for either a year or 3-5 years, with relatively even responses for the options on either end of the spectrum
Question 11: Education
We seem to be an educated group. Almost 50% of the sub either has a college degree or is actively pursuing one, with 12% of us having gone to college without achieving a degree. 20% are currently in secondary education. 7% have or are chasing a graduate degree, and 6% had their education stop at secondary level.
Question 12: Employment
37% of us are students who are not employed, and 18% of us are students with a job. 25% of us have a full time job, while 7% have a part time job and 7% are unemployed. Smaller amounts are either self-employed or of a non-working population.
Question 13: Relationship to production
Thankfully, 85% of us are either working class or dependents of working class folks. 5% are petite-bourgiosie small business owners or self employed. 3% of us are (hopefully class betraying) capitalists.
Question 14: Living situation
Pretty even split between renting our living situation and living rent free with family/friends. Of the rest, 13% of us have alternate living arrangements such as home ownership or mortgages.
15 and 16: Living conditions
The majority of us are at comfortable or adequate arrangements (around 80%), pointing again to reddit's overall demographic. 20% of us would describe their situation as poor. 41% of us did not have difficulty in in our budgets.

Overall as a sub I think we definitely need to read more. Its great that we can recognize the big names on that top ten list, but the real proof of how widely read our sub base is is in the smaller names. There are a lot of people on there I hope to see increase next time!
Honorable mentions from the write in list that got more than 2-3 submissions include Richard Wolff, Victor Serge, Daniel DeLeon, Stirner, and Assata Shakur
19: Working with liberals
This question not worded very well or needs to be broken up into a few different questions, as working with liberals can take many forms and is something the next survey will take into consideration. Showing up to a protest organized by a liberal NGO is very different than actively campaigning for a Democrat or other capitalist party. This is a question that will definitely change next time.
Anyhow, a majority of the sub supports working with liberal capitalist organizations; 40% in a limited capacity and 18% are fully on board for it. A strong majority opposes this kind of involvement, 21% saying they are generally opposed to the idea and 14% taking a principled stance against such tactics.
20: Organization
28% of us are actively organized in some way, which is great! But those are rookie numbers, we gotta pump those up. 29% of us are searching for an org in some way, and 28% are not actively looking but plan on doing so sometime in the future. 12% of us have no intentions of organizing.
21: Unions
A disappointingly large 76% of the sub have never been unionized. Given that a quarter of the sub is under 17, that's partially excusable but the rest of us need to get on it!
13% of the sub actively belongs in a union, and 5% have been in one in the past. 8 of us are actively organizing one, good on you!
21: Types of organization
For those that are organized, the most popular methods of organizing on socialism appears to be:
  1. Mainstream labor union (45%)
  2. Big tent parties such as DSA (35%)
  3. Non-party organization (20%)
  4. Explicitly radical labor unions (15%)
  5. Tendency specific revolutionary party (14%)
  6. Internationally affiliated party (10%)
  7. Tenants union (4%)
  8. Problems organizing
By far the largest stumbling block appears to be lack of options in a given geographic area. There's only one way to fix that however, these things don't just spring up out of the ground fully formed!
After that follows more access to information, more free time, too many shitty socialists, too much time spent working, more money, organizations not open enough, and transportation difficulties
  1. Organizational satisfaction:
Overall people seem to run the full spectrum of satisfaction with their organizations. 45% of those organized are happy with what they got, and 55 either see much room for improvement or are not happy with the organizations.
  1. How should socialism be achieved:
Overall we tend to be more revolutionary. Only a quarter of the sub takes a reformist stance which is good. Almost half the sub is open to seizing power through elections if it is possible, same with those who think we should explicitly have a revolution. Doing so using general strikes seems to win support from everyone. Overall, this is an important question that the sub does seem a bit split on.
  1. The struggles of oppressed groups:
This one had great responses. An overwhelming majority (87%) chose the correct response that socialism must fight form all struggles. There were a few different takes on the **wrong** answers, 7% think these struggles should be ignored until after the revolution and 2% actively call these issues divisive. I will politely yet firmly ask both of the latter to leave, or even better get educated.
  1. Free speech:
I seriously need to consider editing or removing this question because I am not sure what it really achieves.
41% of the sub rejects the existence of bourgeois rights in the first place. 43% acknowledge that free speech is a right but does not trust a capitalist state to honestly enforce it. 18% take an absolutist stance on it, and 22% are happy with how speech is currently treated under capitalism.
  1. Immigration:
There is roughly 2/3 split on this, the majority calling for open borders and the minority calling for some sort of loose restrictions but still maintaining freedom of movement.
  1. Planned economies:
Overall, the sub is in favor of planned economies, and are split over the question of more decentralized production for luxury goods or local community needs. Only 8% of the sub is totally against planning. This is a moderate change from the last survey where just over half the sub was for total planning.
  1. The future:
Just under half (48%) of the sub is unsure if they will live to see socialism, and 36% of the sub think they will. This is almost exactly the same as last time.
  1. State of the subreddit:
Most users have a positive time here, with 43% giving us a 4/5. This has also not changed much since the last survey. Hooray!
  1. How often do you use the sub:
We see a full spectrum of use. Fairly evenly split between a once or twice a month, a few times a week, and almost every day.
  1. Sub activity
Only 7% of the sub posts, and 31% comments. Not much to say here other than much more people are commenting now than they were a year ago, which is good for how we are able to engage folks!
  1. No Mods No Masters
I have to say I am seriously dissapointed with the subreddit here. Us mods are more or less unelected self appointed regulators, and 2/3 of the subs of a *socialist* subreddit passed on the opportunity to tell us to take our authority and jump in a lake. For shame smh.
  1. Mod Approval:
There seems to be an overall mandate from the users that we are doing a good job at keeping this a healthy place for socialists to interact with each other. Under 5% think we are doing a poor job.
  1. Modding Liberals:
Largely the same story here, though there is a bit of a jump in dissaproval. Overall the majority of the sub is happy with our stance on liberal politics, and 10% think we are not modding liberals correctly.
  1. US Election and the subreddit:
Sub seems a bit split on this, but overall the mandate appears to be to remove liberal content, emphasize organizing over voting, while not being super aggressive with banning politically center folks. Just over a third (37%) think socdem content should not be removed, but frankly I do not see our policy on supporting capitalist party content changing anytime soon
  1. Reading group:
58% of the sub would be interesting in some form of organized reading circles. Look out for this in the future, we are unsure how this will manifest but something will be decided on. We will probably have a separate thread for organizing this in the future to choose what pieces we should do, but feel free to spitball in the comments for the *form* you would like to see this take.

I’m just going to be blunt here: the dark academia aesthetic is extremely white-centered, euro-centric, and romanticized. As students, it is essential that we are showing up for our BIPOC siblings (specifically our Black friends) in every single aspect of our lives including our online spaces. As a part of the studyblr community, our tendency to be consumers is pretty inevitable- whether we’re shopping for cute stickers to decorate our planners or looking for the next novel to read, it is time that we acknowledge the importance of where that money is going towards. I URGE YOU TO STOP BUYING ON AMAZON! Here is a non-comprehensive list I’ve put together of BIPOC small and/or independent businesses!
Please feel free to reblog this and add onto this list (obviously keeping in mind the criteria I’ve previously mentioned) to spread the support for our BIPOC creatives and business owners. (the ones in \starred italics\** are my personal favorites, but you should really check every business out!)

I've been on studyblr for much longer than I've been on Reddit, but recently I have had my eyes opened too just how few BIPOC people I see trending. Additionally, most posts I see link amazon or Etsy's of a select few people (none of which are BIPOC in this case). I know we are starting to hear less BLM content but I hope this can be helpful to some of you. I love this list because I am trying to choose this fall's study supplies with more purpose, to try and ensure I'm supporting those in our community that deserve it, rather than more to Amazon.
