I've been mining on slush's pool (mining.bitcoin.cz) for a week or so, and I've earned ~0.065 BTC. Should I switch to MtRed?

I started GPU mining on my main PC a week ago, then I started adding background miners to all the machines in my family I have access to (my video editing rig, with 2 GPUs, a few office PCs with single GPUs, and a few other assorted machines with CPU miners). I'm now running 11 workers total, all on slush's pool.
I just found out about MtRed. How are the payouts? I'd love to support the reddit pool instead of some other guy's pool, but I'm just too BTC-greedy to switch if it'll mean slower mining.
So, should I switch?

Questions I have about Bitcoin

Is bitcoin really viable as a peer-to-peer electronic cash?
Due to high transaction costs and slow transaction speeds, how can we ever use bitcoin to purchase, for example, a Sprite and a bag of potato chips at a gas station? If I want to send a micropayment, for example, of 1000 sats on-chain I can pretty much forget about it because no miner will for and the ftransaction hangs out in the memepool indefinitely. I had a lot of hope for lightning network, but I am now starting to have doubts about its long-term success. What happens when someone using lightning wants to settling a microtransaction on the bitcoin blockchain?
How secure is bitcoin really?
Remember when cz binance wanted to people to thank him for not ordering a re-org to recover lost funds? Isn't bitcoin mining dangerously centralized? What if in the future there is a terrorist attack by government or other criminal orgs that involve bombing or burning large bitcoin mining facilities.
Satoshi writes in the white paper that we propose a solution to the double spending problem, but has this really been achieved? Double spends are still possible with a 51% attack, so what solution to double spending has been achieved. Can't large mining pools conspire to attack bitcoin.
These are concerns I have for the long-term viability and intrinsic value of bitcoin.

As an Bitcoin OG & experienced miner I've only one thing to say

... that this post is mainly a joke :D I browsed my old emails, noticed some coming from mining.bitcoin.cz and a few minutes of google research revealed that mining.bitcoin.cz is called slush pool nowadays, my login still woks and I once mined 0.02 BTC by myself:

It was my router running for a year or so :D Just wanted to share that you can call me Bitcoin OG and experienced miner now, I will for sure!

Malta A.I. & Blockchain Summit 2019

Malta A.I. & Blockchain Summit 2019
May 23–24, 2019
St Julian’s, Malta
The spring summit in Malta, known as “Blockchain Island”, became for the PointPay Team another successful opportunity to share experience with colleagues. It was a pleasure to immerse ourselves into a truly unique atmosphere created by progressive-minded crypto-enthusiasts. The event brought together about 5,500 participants, among which was also the Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of Malta. He is known for his advanced views and firmly convinced of the great promise of blockchain technologies.
We were thrilled to see Tim Draper and Roger Ver again. Their performances always attract the audience attention. The latter one traditionally surprised the participants with his unshakable confidence stating that the penetration of cryptocurrencies in all spheres of everyday life is a matter not of a nearest future.
https://preview.redd.it/sz4u3vbpl2231.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=95b1e55fd58476d346691ad8c0ea570aeac8219b
At the same time, “Bitcoin-Jesus” demonstrated remarkable awareness in everything that concerns the current state of the cryptocurrency market. The culmination was his discussion with analyst and trader Tone Ways. Roger Ver argued that BTC does not stand up to competition with BCH. He motivated itprimarily with the high cost of transactions.
His opponent, in turn, assured that such technical solutions as Lightning Network and SegWit allow sending small bitcoin transactions without having to pay high fees. The crucial moment for the public was a dispute for $ 10,000. Roger promised to present this amount of funds to Tone on the following terms. Tone sends a BTC transaction equal to $ 5 with one satoshi per byte fee. This is, by the way, a standard fee for BCH transactions. If Tone’s transaction will be confirmed within 24 hours, Roger gives him $ 10,000. The transaction was finally confirmed in ten hours. Nevertheless, experts noticed that the transaction was manually added to the block by one of the mining pools. The explicit goal of this action was to help Tone Ways to win the dispute. Who won the dispute, after all?

RE: "How do we keep BTC decentralized (the 51% attack)"

My thread is a response to this thread.
The shortest answer I could give you is that there is a large amount of trust involved in a 51% attack like the one the O.P. describes, but the overall idea is that nobody is economically incentivized to conduct a 51% attack in this day and age. Even when Binance suffered the hack that cost them 7,000 BTC from a hot wallet, CZ obviously had all of the mining pools necessary on speed dial. @CZ_Binance is a Chinese Canadian who spent much of his youth in China, furthermore he probably did so when binance suffered that hack and the pool owners simply didn't want to conduct a "roll back" 51% attack.
Now then, as for 51% attackers that don't own their own pool- it simply can't be done because the most efficient hardware for mining bitcoin is in such high demand that non-institutional (in other words, non-farming) buyers are limited to ordering one or two machines for themselves. I know because I bought an antminer S9 over 18 months ago and it took 3 months to get to my home.

Good Q&As with the Thorchain team in yesterday' Thorchain & Eterbase AMA

Question: ThorChain has built a private solution which will be a good idea since it can increase security and privacy. However, when u are on an Enterprise level, having an impact on the national economy, i think the government won't like the private part, privacy coin delisting on Korea top exchange is an example. So, to resolve the problem on regulation and law-related, how will ThorChain team solutions be?

Answer: Validators bond $RUNE and operate nodes which observe on-chain activity and take action on swapping/staking. Validators won't know each other and we encourage the community to avoid social signalling. All transactions are observed & signed without the validators awareness and therefore node operators have plausible deniability. If any validators are shut down, new validators can spin up and take over. Since both our consensus mechanism and threshold signatures require 67% participation and regular validator churn this should be trivial. In this way, THORChain is decentralised & censorship-resistant.

Question: What is the role of RUNE utility token in whole Thorchain ecosystem?

Answer: Nodes bond 67% of the RUNE. Stakers stake 33% of the rune and they all get paid!

Question: Can you tell me why you use cross-chain bridges rather than atomic swaps? What is the advantage?

Answer: Atomic swaps require a counterparty, have low liquidity and require several steps in the process. From a usability perspective, it's suboptimal on all counts.

THORChain employs one-way state pegs which means assets are not pegged like other chains (and therefore do not have fungibility issues). THORChain simply maintains state on the particular chains eg. Bitcoin, Ethereum (via observations which are made by consensus).

In this way, THORChain will possess always-on incentivised liquidity which provides a fantastic user experience for swappers regardless of their liquidity requirements.

Question: Do you have plans to onboard more exchanges than Eterbase and make this to common practice?

Answer: We will be supporting any exchange who wishes to integrate with the THORChain's decentralised liquidity network (DLN)

Question: Could you give me 3 key points to convince me and other angel investors invest in Thorchain in long-term?

Answer: It's simple. THORChain will connect all blockchains together in a massive marketplace of liquidity where HODLers can turn their unproductive assets into productive ones by staking and providing much-needed liquidity to swappers via manipulation resistant CLP's. All this in a permissionless, trustless, non-custodial setting. Swaps from BTC>ETH, ETH>XMR, even ERC20 tokens to BEP2 assets can be achieved at fair market prices and low fees. Nothing exists quite like it.

Question: Why ThorChain shifts on Binancechain? What's the main reason behind shifting on binancechain ? Which types of facilities & Features binancechain provides to thorchain ?

Answer: BinanceChain offers very fast transactions, is very easy to build on, and allows the rich state to be passedin the memo field of 128 bytes

Question: Why did you choose to partner with Eterbase Exchange and what were the advantages?

Answer: We're really excited about this partnership. Eterbase is a fantastic exchange putting the customer at the centre of everything which we admire. They support BEP2 assets and have a euro stablecoin which we've never seen before. Some of the other benefits are cool too (including negative fees for makers).

Question: BEPSwap offers partner token holders a way to monetise held tokens through a staking system that provides BEPSwap with liquidity for loans etc?

My questions related to this are:

- Are staked tokens locked for a minimum period of time?

- How is ownership of staked tokens managed given BEP2 tokens have no smart contracts available?

- Is the ROI for a token variable based on lending demand or is it a fixed ROI % across all tokens in the BEPSwap platform?

Answer: - Staked tokens are initially locked for 24hrs to avoid having gas drained from the network. However they remain yours, always, via proof of keys. As long as you can sign a message - you can withdraw anytime.

- THORChain maintains state of ownership based on observations on binance chain. We observe which address sent them in, and what instruction was given. THORChain achieves consensus about what it observed and keeps this state.

- The ROI for staking depends on volume and slip for each swap. Stakers also get a share of block rewards.

Question: BEPSWAP is a DEX while Eterbase is a CEX. Some may view that the two exchanges are competitors of one another.

What are the benefits of THORChain and its BEPSWAP partnering up with Eterbase?

Answer: BEPSwap is a DLN =) Decentralised Liquidity Network. CEX's have their benefits and are different =)

Question: Liquidity seem to be a keyword on many exchanges, trading platforms and a core object that Thorchain ecosystem orbits on. How will this be resolved on Thorchain? Why does swap protocol need liquidity and will Thorchain protocol be better than swap platforms like ShapeShift, Changelly?

Answer: THORChain incentives HODL'ers (who may not have assets on custodial exchanges) to stake their assets to earn fees on swaps. Thus turning them into productive assets.

This liquidity then becomes accessible to swappers, which is convenient for people who aren't interested in order books, limit orders, stop losses, margin trading etc.

Question: What role do you think Thorchain will play in making blockchain highly adaptable in the worldwide stage?

Answer: Good question Neeko - There is a non-trivial amount of assets that could be providing much-needed liquidity to swappers. We give them an incentive to stake. Continuous Liquidity Pools (CLPs) utilising the constant product market formula are relatively new. However, we believe this is the ideal way to manage liquidity of all assets. So it can be adapted for all assets, not just crypto assets. Think shares/stocks

Question: As i know that Thorchain uses threshold signatures instead of multi-sig and I just see this tweet from CZ: "I believe TSS (threshold signatures scheme) will reshape the landscape for wallets and custodian services. It is far superior to multi-sig". Can you explain the reason for and advantages of using TSS?

Answer: Single sig - One key / one lock
Multi sig - Many keys / one lock
Shamir secret sharing - One shared key / one lock
Threshold signatures - There is no key........ (think about it, it'll blow your mind)

Weekly Update: Parena trifecta, Cryzen shareable backtests, Crypto biggies for aXpire, HYDRO taking giant strides... - 29 Mar - 4 Apr'19
Hiya folks! Starting today and over the next 10-12 days, I'll attempt to catch up on all the pending weekly updates. Seeing how much goes on in Parachute + partnerverse in a week, this is going to be a humongous challenge. Let's see how it goes. Wish me luck! Our good friends at Uptrennd, did a shoutout to a previous weekly update. You guys rock! And this is why making these updates is so worthwhile. This week's post is easily going to be the biggest one yet. Here's your week at Parachute (29 March to 4 April):

Parenas were aplenty this week. Starting with the weekly Parena which Alexis won to take home a lion’s share from the 200k PAR pot. Alexis also picked the Metallica theme Parena spoils by beating Kamo in a quick finale battle and claimed his rightful share from the 100k PAR pool. And finally, we had a WED Parena after a long time. Chris sponsored 1M WED for the Parena pot, and almost won the winner’s share if not for Clinton whose Zebra beat Chris’ Mink to claim top spot. Damn! That’s a ton of PAR and WED given away in a single week in Parenas. Jason hosted the first ever Parachute-based trivia instead of the normal Gamee games for the week. It’s been a fun ride with even Cap and Ice getting stumped by one of the questions.

3-2-1, Kamo goes down! Alexis is victorious!

We are also starting to see multiple Parachute partners collaborating with each other. Zachary from BOMB joined Jeff from Uptrennd for a live stream chat on what the future holds for the crypto market. In other BOMB news, the BOMB puzzle stayed unsolved. 1000 BOMB tokens were burned as a result. The riddle was about Vitalik Buterin’s death hoax. To prove that he was alive, Vitalik had uploaded a picture of the latest block size. The answer could be reached by hashing together the block reward and parent block and finally adding gas at the end. ETHOS followed up its BOMB listing with a featured article explaining what the project was all about. Folks who haven’t had the chance to read up on BOMB yet, check it out. Did you know that ETHOS has been acknowledging good conversations in their Telegram channel using ParJar for quite some time now? Read here about it and join in! The latest updates to the dev diary and dashboard were made this week. Also, if you aren’t on Uptrennd yet, check out this article on MrBTC to find out what you’re missing out. “Uptrennd currently share around 80% of the websites revenue with their users”. Boom!

PoL – Proof-of-Life

In Cryzen-world, all Free accounts participating in the Battle of the Bots #1 Competition were upgraded to Starter accounts for the month of April. Simulation sharing is now live on the Cryzen Code Studio thanks to Robin. Any backtest can now be shared with the world using a link. Click here to check the test run of Shuvro’s Mean Reversal algorithm. Once there, you will be able to use the Share button and social links on top to share the backtest with friends. Plus, the algo-of-the-week would have to be Shuvro’s Mean Reversal bot live trading ETC on Binance netting an ROI of ~16%. Pretty neat!

This beauty looks like a contender for the Battle of the Bots

Matthew sat down for a tete-a-tete with Ben (Ethfinex) to talk about the aXpire project. While AXPR didn’t make it to Ethfinex in the vote (more on that in the next update), the greatest takeaway was the community and influencer support that came along the way. Roger Ver, J.D. Salbego, That Martini Guy and Crypto Mobster (Ash Davidson) were some of the well known personalities that got behind aXpire. Oh Hey Matty’s review of AXPR also came out this week. And there’s not enough that could be said of the awesomeness of the aXpire community. They came out in numbers to back up the project and vote. In the next update, we will share how the community gave exceptional support during the voting phase. On a lighter note, this was also April Fool’s week. aXpire’s prank turned out to be so believable that some folks got stumped. The team had to change the headline and add an “EDIT” to emphasise that it was a joke. Haha! Remember, aXpire’s visit to SOS Children’s Village in India? Here’s some pictures from the visit. The monthly AXPR burn was also this week. 110k AXPR gone forever. Congratulations to the Telegram contest winners for snagging 100 USD worth of AXPR each! And finally, click here and here for a sneak peek at the MatchBX redesign. Stay tuned for more! Below is a big picture view of how aXpire is building adoptable blockchain infrastructure for all:

The aXpire ecosystem has both enterprise and consumer products

2gether co-founders Ramon and Salva were invited this week by KPMG as part of their KPMGTalks Series. Click here and here for pictures from the event. As chosen by the community through a vote, this video is now the official intro for 2gether. Also check out the presale trailer which features the intro. If you’re participating in the presale, make sure to go through the product roadmap and fund use plan. And if you’re travelling to the FinTech Unconference in Madrid in May, you can catch a moment with Salva who will be speaking there.

Intended Use of Funds from 2gether presale

HYDRO fans, check out the latest community update for a lowdown on all things HYDRO. Some of the highlights from the update are – addition of ParJar (covered in our last update), listing of HYDRO on ETHOS, making it to the final Ethfinex list for community vote (like aXpire). The Hydrogen Molecule security token investment platform is under development. For a demo, you can get in touch with the team. Hydrogen co-founder Mike was in Istanbul this week to speak on “APIs and Cloud” as part of the Istanbul Fintech Week. Click here for pics from the event. Plus, HYDRO is now part of Binance Info’s Transparency Initiative. As a result, the project received the V label (like Fantom did). The V label means that the project team is itself providing relevant information on Binance Info. As part of the Ethfinex voting process, Ben interviewed Mark Anstead, Hydrogen head of BD. Hydro will be BUIDLing a Bitfinex/Ethfinex/NEC centred dApp if they make it to the top 3 in the votes. In more BUIDL news, the upcoming Hydro dAppStore could look like the following:

Hydro dAppStore UI teaser
Blockport fans will know that social trading is a key upcoming feature of the project. In this detailed piece, founder Kai explains the details of this feature and what it holds for the future of Blockport. In Switch news, the first fee airdrop to ESH and SDEX holders was done this week. As part of distribution, 300k ESH and more than 3k USD in ETH was given out. A few more quick updates can be found in this article. Here’s John McAfee speaking on the importance of DEX’es and why SwitchDEX is a promising project. If you haven’t read up on SwitchDEX yet, this article lays bare the details of the Dex and its token (SDEX). Bounty payouts with Bounty chocolate bars was enabled by Bounty0x on 1st April (notice the date :p). Wonder if anybody tried a payout. The BNTY roadmap was updated recently. Check it out here. Plus, if you are participating in any bounty on the platform, the weekly distribution report will be of interest. Opacity enthusiasts, check out the March update from Jason. Some key takeaways from the update would be on the development-front. Opacity is also one of the few projects in the crypto-space that share finance updates. Below is 2019 expense forecasting for Opacity:

Actual expenses for March, forecasts for others

And finally, a quick summary of updates from some of the other partners. District0x is calling on meme lords to be prepared with their dankest memes for the MemeFactory0x launch day. The weekly District update and biweekly Dev update share the latest progress in District Registry and Ethlance among others. Fantomites, check out the monthly recap of the project for March. Another FTM fundamental analysis dropped this week. This time by FundaMint. Check out the analysis report here. Fantom’s CIO Michael Kong sat down for an AMA this week to answer questions from the community. His reverts can be found here. Dutch followers of Fantom, make sure to mark your calendars for an AMA on 25th June. That Martini Guy’s video mentioned in the aXpire update above also covered FTM as one of his picks for Q2 2019. Woot! Horizon State Token (HST) is now available for trading on Easy Crypto for folks in both Australia and New Zealand. The latest version of the Gem app (v0.17.4) with significant performance upgrades is now live on the App Store and PlayStore. The WednesdayClub dApp is now searchable on dappradar and state of the dapps.

That’s it for this week! Have a great weekend folks. Don’t forget to listen to this super chill soundtrack recommendation from Cap. Until next time. Ciao.

BTC/Bitcoin: The 2019 BlockShow Asia Summit will be held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from November 14th to 15th.

In the past two days, there were heavy swing moves in BTC from the $7,500 support against the US Dollar. The BTC/USD pair rallied more than 20% and broke many hurdles near $8,500 and $9,000.
Moreover, there was a close above the $8,500 resistance area and the 100 simple moving average (4-hours). Finally, the price rallied above the $10,000 resistance and traded close to the $10,600 resistance area.
However, the bulls failed to remain in control and a top was formed near $10,591. Later, there was a strong downside correction below the $10,000 level. The price traded below the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the rally from the $7,425 swing low to $10,591 high.

Best Currency to Mine with low Ghash rate

Hi Cryptocurrency subreddit
At the moment I'm Mining Bitcoins with about 7 Gh/s (Minepeon and a few ASIC USB Miners). I know it doesn't make much sense with such a low Hashrate, but I'm wondering if there is a currency (sha-256 based) that I can mine with more "Reward".
Thanks for your answers Bischi1997
Edit: I'm using [mining.bitcoin.cz](mining.bitcoin.cz) at the moment.

BetterHash for Monero

What is BetterHash

Currently, mining pools are responsible for consensus. They run the full node and dispatch work to miners to create blocks. BetterHash is a protocol which allows miners to run full nodes and create blocks, the mining pool only serves to share the block reward. This means many more mining nodes controlled by different individuals. Miners have to remain active they cannot sit back and become an "NPC" miner.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lGO5I74qJM
It is also more secure and efficient than the stratum protocol.

Why Mining Pools can be Dangerous

A few pools could easily represent more than 50% of the hashpower, especially for small networks like BCH. Exchanges could form secret agreements with several pools such that when they get notified of a large theft they work to perform a reorg - in return for a cut of the recovered funds - providing the reorg is small. The fact the CZ even considered this by approaching several pool owners & large miners shows BTC is becoming too centralized.
Because Pools represent miners, they can do something dirty for a short time before the miners realize a chain reorg occured and once its done its too late.
Pool owners can't be trusted to act in the interest of their miners. Case and point Bitcoin.com, forced all BTC miners to mine BCH during the hashwar despite it being unprofitable to do so.

Adoption of BetterHash

The BTC mining is controlled by ASICS, and there hasn't been that much traction so far. But seeing has moneros mining protocol is being designed with the intent to be accessible to everyone we might get better adoption and it would prove more useful.
If monero adopted BetterHash, it will be seen as ASIC free & fully decentralized I think no coin could achieve this...

What can be done

BetterHash is written in rust, I am not sure what dependencies exist with the consensus libraries of the full node. But I assume they might need to be written in rust...
