Class on fantasy map making

I have no affiliation to this, it just came up as I get the Atlas Obscura newsletter. Not sure if it's ok to link to tickets, happy to remove that if it's a problem. Looks cool.

On this week's edition of The Secret Arts, we're welcoming the "Mistress of Maps" herself, Deven Rue, to talk to us about the craft of creating fictional cartography! Rue is a visually impaired professional fantasy cartographer who is best known for her work with Critical Role, Wizards of the Coast, and more. Whether you've got an imaginary world you're looking to get out of your head, or you're looking for ways to improve your own personal cartographic arts, join us for this special discussion of maps and wonder!

Things to Do - Week of Dec 2 - 8 + Remember the r/dallas Happy Hour Meetup on Friday!

A note from your listmaker
This week only (I won’t make a habit of self-promoting) I have a small request. If you appreciate this list, I am asking you to visit the Shop Small in Dallas page on my website.
My website is not monetized in any way - no ads, no affiliate links, no pop-ups, no asks for your email, and nothing that makes your clicks worth anything except a smile from me, and perhaps some gratitude from local Dallas stores if they pick up new customers. The Other links to things to do section is (and will be going forward) located at the bottom of this post. Thank you!

THIS IS IT: If There is a solution to the IRL puzzle, we’ve found it. PLEASE READ!

Dearest Community Whomst I Love,
First of all, many of the final details of our excursions into the IRL puzzle (which are by no means comprehensive) can be found here. If you haven’t read through the post there, as well as the comments, PLEASE do so! It’s beyond fascinating and will provide the rationale for this post. I’ll wait...
...Oh! You’re back! Hi! Just let me put down my sandwich so I can continue. On September 8th at 3pm at the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, there will be an event. A boy’s choir will sing at a tree roots art installation called “Unearthed.” The songs they’ll be singing are “Trees” and “Mass for Five Voices. We MUST have people attending this event! Attendance is free but you MUST FIRST RSVP AT THIS URL!!.
Ideally we will have people there to do the movements (though probably not during the singing or you might get kicked out). The Cathedral also includes two super aesthetic labyrinths that would serve as wonderful locations for a Movements flashmob, and if worse comes to worst and you’re unable to do them inside the building itself, you could do them in front because it also has a rose stained glass window that is IDENTICAL to the one on the Nob Hill house. These physical elements can be seen in Imgur posts linked in the Reddit post linked above. But, if possible, I feel that the movements should be done inside the Cathedral.(SEE ⚠️IMPORTANT UPDATE⚠️ BELOW). But PLEASE NOTE: As was pointed out by several people in the comments (thank you for the concern!): we SHOULD NOT do the movements inside the Cathedral unless we are absolutely sure we’re not being disrespectful by doing so. That means NO doing them during the boy’s choir or in places of worship UNLESS we know it’s a part of the puzzle 100% for sure. I would say that, if we see no explicit signals to that end, we should get our flash mob video in front of the Cathedral with the rose window in-frame 😊 We do NOT want a reputation as a toxic fanbase, so be respectful of everybody’s religious practices and the spaces in which they carry out those practices!
We don’t know if there is really a puzzle. We, as a community, dove down a gigantic rabbit hole here, but the clues are ALL there. We also have substantive reasons (both within and without The OA) to believe that the Grace Cathedral IS relevant to the show. The discovery itself—if indeed there is a discovery to be made—is OURS to make.
Please spread this post in every channel you can! Tell all of your friends! We need to get as many fans as possible to this location for this event on this date. If there is a solution to the puzzle THIS IS IT!
With so much love,
Juno
Edit with a request: there are many fans of the show who aren’t on Reddit (right now or at all) but are present on Twitter. If you’re comfortable doing so PLEASE either retweet my own tweet linking to these threads OR write one of your own containing the link to this thread! Also, if you want, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to tweet this information at all of the people who have just seen The OA for the first time and are tweeting about how pissed they are over the cancellation! ❤️
⚠️VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE⚠️: We’ve called Grace Cathedral and they confirmed that this event IS NOT affiliated with The OA or Netflix. We must take them at their word and be respectful of this holy space. We will still be looking into organizing a respectful movements flash mob at some point in or by the Cathedral. For now: consider any directions pertaining to the September 8 event to be null and void. I’ll leave the information there in case anybody wants to attend anyways (because it does look super cool!). As well, it would still be worthwhile for any fan of The OA to stop by the Nob Hill area and check out this church, because it DID influence the show heavily (this much we know for sure). Consider it a sort of pilgrimage, but ALWAYS be respectful. I’m very sorry that we jumped to conclusions before calling the establishment in question. Don’t let any of this detract from the very clear patterns of clues we’ve found: this all must be pointing somewhere! Keep digging everybody; we may just be getting started ❤️

Things To Do: Jan 21st to 27th

Hi guys - before we move forward with the weekly things to do post, we wanted to provide some clarity on why a new account is creating this post and provide the community with some information about who we are and how this came about. We’ll keep this intro brief for the sake of getting to what you actually came here for, finding cool things to do this week! We are 4 childhood friends (and are all Redditors as well), who grew up living and hanging out in Toronto. We realized every time we hung out we ended up at the same places because it was far too cumbersome to find anything else, and even though we wanted to explore new things, it just felt easier to go somewhere familiar. We decided we’d try our hand at creating something that makes discovering new things to do easy, and over the last few years and countless of hours later, we created the ExploreTO app. We really admired the daily things to do posts, and also aspired to contribute to the Reddit community in a way that is aligned with our passion project. Our focus on event research has been increasing over the last several months and when we saw that the mods have started doing the posts, we reached out to see if there was a way we can contribute. We are very delighted that the mods gave us the opportunity to create these weekly posts on a trial basis, and we hope you enjoy them! We also wanted to get ahead of some questions that you may be wondering about:
How will this affect me as a user who frequently uses these posts?
It won’t. We wanted to be transparent in this post because we know the passing of the torch may be confusing. We hope to maintain a great and consistent experience with these posts and improve it further over time based on feedback from the community.
We don’t want these posts to turn into anything but what they have always been: a community generated post that captures the best things happening in Toronto.
So what’s in it for you?
To be frank, these posts take quite a bit of time a week to compile, especially if you aren’t already doing it for another purpose (we are, for our app). We thought it might be mutually beneficial to the community for us to generate these posts as we’re already doing a lot of event research. The community will get a weekly things to do thread that is continuously updated & improved, and we will get exposure for our app. We will never be impartial to events that “benefit us”, this will not only be true in the Reddit threads we post, but also in the app itself. We see our job as finding the best things to do based on the merit of the events themselves. We will never post affiliate or sponsored links on Reddit, however, if the community believes we’re doing a good job, we would be happily welcome anyone to check out our app.
Closing thoughts
Just like the app was created as a passion project, these posts will only be a continuation of said project. We have no clue how far the app will go and we’ve already spent thousands of hours working on it with nothing earned but the joy of a few positive reviews on the app store. We will however, ask you – the community, for one thing: if you enjoy these posts or derive some benefit from them, occasionally, please let us know. Between our day jobs and our evening passion project that is this app, we’re running on fumes and positive reinforcement. This is the first and last time we will add this intro on the post. We will link to it in the next few so that anyone who may have missed it can still access it. If you have any questions, please go ahead and ask. Hope you enjoy this week's post!

Things To Do- Week of 12/17

Next week's list will be smaller because I want to focus a little more on my family that is coming in town. Note, I added a list of NYE Parties I've found at putting that last at the bottom because if you're anything like me you like to plan ahead. My only suggestion would be to stay safe, have fun, and if anything a fun night at home is always a great choice to ring in the new year. They'll be listed by venue and alphabetical. I'll be adding more to the list next week too.

I do realize that I sometimes use Facebook event links and some Redditors do not use Facebook. If there's any events you'd like more details on that's a Facebook link I'll be happy to help out. I try and avoid using Facebook links and go straight to the source but some venues strictly use Facebook for their events.

If I missed anything or would like to showcase an event, feel free to comment below.
